Bluedevil, u damn farny leh.. But I know what you mean lah..
Well the reason why I want to dictate the reliability of the movement as a higher priority above cosmetic appeal of her's is bcos I know very well :
1) she is not one who will look after the watch
2) If I am spending the $$ on a good watch, I should target one with reliable and good movement, so to make investment a worthy one + I hope to get something befitting of a heirloom to pass on to my daughter... A Chopard personally do not qualify. Its a designer watch and I feel will not last the decades.
3) I know girls want watches that are pretty.. but my woman is no longer interested in the "fashion" look but moved on from her girlish taste to a more lady / woman taste (not aunty taste hor).. aiya.. when you get married, have kids, you will probably know the difference between yr wife when she is a mother than when she was your GF...
Thats why Rolex / Patek seems to capture that part of the market well.. Nevertheless, I am not writing off something that is pretty but still exquisite and reliable.
But I appreiciate yr inputs nonetheless.. When I am writing my reply to you, I sort of understand better why I am not too inclined towards designer type of watch.

Most of us will pick a Rolex ah, I also dont understand what's the big deal with designer boutique watches. But girls want watches for the "pretty factor", i feel.
Chopard Happy Sport, u dont pay for the quartz mechanism, but for the superb workmanship surrounding the exquisite dancing diamonds. If u tilt it really slightly, it will spin and dance. No one could replicate that.
My gf's first chopard was a nightmare, but she still like Chopard. And she still got another Chopard for herself in the end. Take a look at Happy Sport Mark II, with MOP dial, and 7 diamonds, after less, only 6K. And got upgrade possibility; she intends to add a heart.
Another nice watch is the El Primero Glam Rock with the open Star. My gf likes that too

you can see the specs of the watch at the above link. Oh crap, sorry for the wrong info, this watch is not using their inhouse movement. I think FC's inhouse movement start from caliber 910 onwards. This one using 310 shld be an ETA. This one cost about SGD 5K i think. if u were to have 12K to burn, i rather u take Zenith.Last edited by carrot^; 15-08-08, 10:21 AM.

My experience getting Rollie for OC
Hope I am not hijacking this thread, but I like to share my personal experience in this.
Up till last year CNY, never really paid any attention to watch...just a plain CYMA, until my BIL told me how people spent thousands on Mont Blanc and Rolexes.
Then actually did some research and finally surprised my OC with a TT boy size computer faced on her birthday. But not before sending it for verification and complete overhaul in Rolex centre that set me back for 400plus.
The real satisfaction comes when she received positive compliments from colleagues/suppliers who started to notice her wearing as daily watch (she's a sales admin assistant). Till today she does not know the actual costs, except for the 400plus bill I charged to my card. And she will always say "my hubby bought". I always feel so "song" everytime...on hearing that....
It also helps when I made my 1st trip to AD in Raffles Place 3months later and bought myself a GMTII 16713. Not only OC said the face looks suitable on my hand, she actually gave a "go" signal! After negotiating, got my target price and went back to settle in cash. Man...the only time my heart beat so fast I felt I was on 100m race....both excited on my 1st Rolex and 1st time carrying so much cash...
Here I am, after one year conversation with my BIL with 2 Rollies and 2 Mont Blanc.
It is a year for me to remember, 20 years from now and I can share with my son and daugther. By then, I think I can pass him my GMTII....or probably I will get another Exp II a few years down the road for him instead. I think a TT GMTII still looks good on a 55years old uncle...hahaha.
Back to the owner of this thread, go with your budget and gut feeling. At the end of the day, if she's happy with chopad...go get a chopad and she will tell all her friends you bought on her special bla bla day....you will definitely be very very "song"....haha. Just my cent.
Cheers.TT D GMTII
SS Z ExpII
TT M Sub
SS M Milgauss
Looking BNIB SS Z/M SD
