When you buy from an establishment e.g. a shop, they won't refund you the money. Usually, however, the deposit is converted to partial payment for the other item you purchase. For personal dealings, it is entirely up to you. You have the right to keep the money. that what deposit is for in the 1st place. Probably, you will make the other person unhappy with you. If that person is friendly and sincere, no harm returning him the money and keep a friend.

if no losses incurred, think I will refund also.... take it as $100 to make a friend.

in your case, i would refund the 100. why? because can sell the watch without much hassle. recently i secured a rolex box for someone. someone inspected and collected the box and i was paid. few days later, someone asked for refund. i refunded full amount.

it is your choice how you want to go through a deal. a deposit is always considered an intention to buy. however, buyer should be understanding that if the deal does not go through then dont expect refund.

personally, i dont collect deposit. this will free me any obligation to sell to the buyer. the buyer can always say give me one day or 2 to think. i will say ok. but after 2 days no news, i will reply through sms to say i will sell to others regardless whether the buyer respond or not unless saying immediate deal.

Not always true, bro. At least not in the case with JW. They do not allow deposit to be used for other purchase.

Buyers and sellers take risk at times...I would give the buyer back his money.

He took the risk to entrust $100 with a stranger to secure an item he never saw, shows he is committed to the trade. Well unfortunate that he backed out because it was not something he wanted.

$100...alot not say alot, not say little also. But since nothing was traded...By all means, I will refund that person his money.
