barely enuff to cover the inflation.

key is not abt giving out money, but how to sustain and minimise inflation and erosion to real wages. Always show notional growth and stuff, only looks good on paper.

Yeah, our real wages are depressed in general. I was just exchanging notes with an Australian counterpart and it seems that the wages for my job are pratically double or even triple in Australia! Damn!

Bro, its not a matter of 'tam sim', its a matter of keeping things reasonable...look at the way that many people's salary structure have not comensurate with the rising costs of housing, at the transportation woes and for many youngsters, at a very uncertain future. Sure, we have political stability in this country but other things may not be so stable...

agree singapore wages are depressed; but here in the west (where im from) inflation is amongst the highest of all the states. due to mining "boom". yes; whilst we may be paid more on a dollar basis; everything else is pegged to our income.

end of the day, we ask ourselves, do we have any real gain? in my case the answer is no. oh, and i forgot to mention; we also have a gov't who gian lui (love money). electric bill up 40%, water up 15%, transports cost up 10-12%. not to mention our eastern counterparts kenna flood, bushfire, cyclone, this all have multiplier effect, and we also have a new tax coming this way to cover for freak disasters.

Gahmen do everything also kenna slam one.

Don't give carrot - people complain gahmen eat money
Give some carrot and keep some for future - people say gahmen use it to cover loses elsewhere
Give more carrot - people say election coming, after that sure take back
Even take out carrot saved from past and give - people say that our money and should give more as times bad.

Economy down and inflation down - people not happy
Economy up and inflation up - people not happy
Can any gahmen make economy up and inflation down??

And many times discussion goes back to minister pay.

I think the goodies are nice for the middle and lower income group. A right move to help these people.

i only know that i cannot depend on government giving handout. how much can they give? the amount they give can only offset part of expenses.

one need to work harder and have better control of finances. but it is not easy. 1 valuable thing i learnt during uni days is to record all the expenses daily in excel spreadsheet. i put down description of item, amount spent and date of expenditure. this way i get better control of my finances. you will be surprise that doing the extra leg work to find the slightly cheaper food, household item, the savings in a month can sometimes reward yourself with a better meal.

another way is to make your money work harder and get better value for your money spent.

most important, be discipline in your finances.
