apple is considered one of the most successful currently. why is it successful?
1) it currently has only 1 screen resolution of its phone which makes it easy from developer point of view. everything can be size properly without much hassle. android is lagging behind because several brands has different screen resolutions which makes it slightly 'troublesome' for developers because each application needs to be able to resize to the screen resolution. *was discussing this with sshark last evening over dinner*
2) apple SDK is straight forward and easier to use compared to android and symbian and windows.
3) apple applications have to be vetted before appearing in Apps store. android application does not need to be vetted before appearing in Market. without being vetted, it means it can work on one screen resolution but not another. this resulted in frustration among users who download the application only to realize that it does not work on their device.
4) app has only app store. for android, there are apps brain, apps fire, market, etc. too many places to look for application. there should only be 1 central depository with different sub categories that caters for that local communities and one for general application.
currently apple has the winning formula and android & windows & symbian are all playing catch up.
to me which operating system will be most successful.
the operating system which can have
1) easy to use SDK (software development kit) will encourage more developers to write apps using it.
2) if europe is intending to launch a common charger for different brands of mobile phones. ideally, a SDK that works on all different operating systems. (commercially not viable)
3) the process of vetting an application be streamline for android and windows and symbian.
4) for apple there is the iMerlion which caters to sg users. if there is other similar "iconic" location for different countries, it will be successful. like for android, there is the generic "Market" there is also "AppsFire" which has apps catered for sg users.
this OS will be successful.if you have issues with your account, click here for self help and read forum rules here. 90% of your answers can be found in Forum FAQ

in terms of volume users; i still believe apple will come out in front. why? because most users are lazy. they want something easy to use. apple provides that with one software (itunes/iOS). they also provide a central app dispensing system (appstore).
not to mention the amount of people who have already bought software for their iOS devices; it will not be transferrable to android/windows OS.
those are the reasons why until today im still using iphone.Currently wearing:

Ok, I didn't mention about Symbian for the obvious reason that Nokia has abandoned it. I also didn't mention Blackberry since it is more enterprise focused with a 4th position market share in Q4 2010 with a relatively slow volme growth.
Industry data also show that Android has almost 2 times the market share (world wide) of Apple's iOS in Q4 2010, although Android is ahead by only 2%+ in term of full year 2010 . In order for iOS to overtake Android going forward, Apple, with the iOS proprietary to itself, have to outsell the number of smart phones of that of Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Acer, Motorola add together.
The point is, Apple may be the hottest smart phone or mobile phone at the moment, but that is not the same as its iOS being, or becoming, the most popular or successful OS.
Contents wise, the content developers will always lean towards volume (i.e. consumer base), and Android, with the many handsets manufacturer brands behind it that are expected to go mass-market with Android phones, is growing much faster that iOS.Watches are like potato chips - You never stop at one

no point growing if only catered for specific resolution or brand.if you have issues with your account, click here for self help and read forum rules here. 90% of your answers can be found in Forum FAQ
