I would say no point.. Cos they are rubber sole.. They become soft and flimsy over time..

    • Berluti leather are a bit thin.
      Great patina work though.

      Still prefer corthay.

Only $200 shoes of normal brand but quite well made is good enough for me.
Life quite tough, things are expensive, mouths to feed, bodies to clothe, minds to educate and spirits to nourish. Sigh not easy, not easy

but how many pair of $200-$300 shoes will you cycle through during your working life?

my brother is still wearing a pair of shoes that used to belong to me (the shoes are 18 years old this year) that have been resoled twice.

i paid US$200 for them a long time ago (back when the FX rate was US$1=SG$1.65), but over time the cost per wear gets cheaper.

i would continue to wear them but my shoe size changed so they didn't fit me at all and i had to give them up (very sadly).

I guess for $200-300 shoes, i change them about once every few years.
I am particular about the quality so i only pick those which are leather soled, welted or stitched. they can easily be resoled to last another two years if the overall condition is fine.

For my 3 pairs of Ferragamos loafers, i swop around to wear them. And have resoled them at least once.
They are good for many more years to come.

I have two pairs of Ballys, both of which i dont wear anymore.
One pair split after i came home not long after.
The other pair has gotten a bit tight.

Also had a pair or two of BrunoMaglis and Magnannis over the years.
All bought at very reasonable prices from Europe

For work shoes i dont mind paying for quality.
But there are actually many shoes in the $200-300 range that have very acceptable quality.
Sometimes no need to go $600-800 range as i found over the years.

As i get older, i try to spend less...

money brings about plenty of problems.

i think i know what you mean...

it's not really about spending less, but spending less on oneself.

              (that's me, anyway...)

                  • Alden cordovan boots / shoes is still the best for me. The patina that cordovan leather develops is pretty insane. The troublesome part will be the resoling as I don't think any local cobbler can do a decent job.

                          • I'm actually checking out Clark's shoes. Colleague recommended to me saying that they are valued for their money. I just started working a year back and got 2 non-branded shoes on offer for 200 bucks, but one gave way (the leather split) despite alternate weekly usage..
