by the way, heard from an AD (but overseas) that that Rolex is either planning or already gone ahead with cutting back on the production on sport watches (esp steel). This is so that they can protect the brand equity and offer a more uniform pricing across the world (vs bigger discounts in some part of the world - which result in diff AD complaining and big grey markets).
Not sure how true this but having worked in an FMCG industry before, i can understand how important the brand equity is and the importance of controlling the price (ie, uniform price across the world)....
what does it all mean?
- more difficult to get hold of the steel sport watches
- less discount
sounds like the typical marketing talk. Whats the point of decreasing new sales volume to increase resale price which they wont benefit from? Unless they plan on increasing new price as well...
shouldn't buy watches by installment....even if it's interest free. Unless you have no problem paying it off in one lump sum but just taking advantage of interest free payment. If otherwise, think twice...
my opinion on installment is that, it's fine if one knows that he can generate more returns in outside investments instead of tying up in cash upfront now.
For example if we know paying cash for a certain watch is $X and paying by CC installment will be additional 3-4%, we can choose to opt for CC installment IF we know that and we are conscientious enough to invest to get more than 4% returns.
It's about making good debts also but there's also a fine balance of not incurring too much debt as one might just be tricked into paying so much things on installments, then it becomes dangerous.
It's a fine line and i feel in certain scenarios it's justifiable provided one knows what one is doing..
sure it's about what floats your boat but how much difference can a few percent make for a watch that's only $20 - $30k.
at least $100k then maybe worth the bother.

my personal perspective only.
Nice say..... Why bother to consider a Rolex when hardly got enough cash? Instal, no no, buy within ur mean.
Not sure if this clears the air... The DBS card I applied came with 5 year annual fee waiver...
hello the card with 5 year fee waiver is dbs live fresh (min income 30k)....but ppl with income more than 50k usually will have other cards (1 year fee waiver only).....so perhaps it's worth applying this card just to use it for the installment
so far has any dbs/posb customer experienced request to waive annual fee rejected by dbs/posb just because they r tied up with installment plan? i myself expereinced that with citibank 2 years ago....they rejected my fee waiver request for citi clear when i was still on installment plan and the approved my waiver request the following year(after i clear my installment)...make me damn tulan citibank

Maybe but even without the control the price can only go up. With the control can't imagine what it means.
My view on Rolex - get them while you can (and can afford)

DBS will try to give me the card by Friday. Just fax my details to them this morning. Let's see if they could make it. This is going to be my only card with DBS so with the 5 year fee waiver, I guess should be ok. Only use the card for this sole purpose only.
Anyone can advise which to get first? Thanks in advance. Going shopping this weekend!!!
