  • I fully agree. Why would someone buy a watch on installment. If one can afford, one should pay the full sum. That is the true joy of owing a nice watch.

so instalments for a low ticket item like a watch is a definite no-no.

    • I will. I am not rich enough to own any luxury brand watch, actually. So no choice, paid in installments. But well, I still feel the joy of owning some of these watches, no less.

I agree with u. There is no harm trying the 0% interest installment. If its 0%, y not? Someone may be earning 10k per mth n by using installment, he can just take out 1k or less for a watch. Does that mean he is poor? Nope, just that he choose to distri ute his spending since its 0% interest...

Personally, i have yet to go on the installment route as half of what i currently own are purchased preown directly from sellers while the other half are purchased new from grey dealers.

I have never made a single purchase from an AD / Retailer locally, and i dont see why i need to build a "relationship" to be in their "good books" as their "favoured" customer to enjoy priority access to releases that wld end up being sold at a premium anyway. But thats another story for another thread entirely....

Guess there are other perks to building a relationship, you get invited to the watch talks and launches, free food... but through grey dealer you save more money and can get more food that way.....

Another thing about paying in installments, is the final discount that you get. Cos once I ask about the payment modes, the AD quoted me higher when I enquired about installments....

                • What a ridiculous discussion about paying in full, or using an interest free installment, for a new watch. I bet you guys wear ROO and Panerais, which are way too big for your bodyframes, just to show you have an expensive watch and have paid in full.

It's up to the buyer to decide to use cheap credit, or pay in one go.

However, shouldn't buy if you are getting in over your head. This is the key and reason why banks offer this product as they will get all your revolving interest.

                  • actually it's not good paying by instalment because you don't get the credit card points. e.g. 10K would earn a lot of card points.

$1 now is not the same as $1 in 36 months time. in 36 months, the $1 may be worth only 95 cents of today's money...

So installment can be good for those that use their money for investments to turn a profit.

In any case I've not bought any watches on installment before, so why am I even writing this???

                      • I will make sure I have the amount in cash. Then pay for the watch by instalments. It is interest free and inflation works in your favour. I always do this.

The points wise and rebate etc.... well that's one trade off against inflation. Furthermore I will rather keep the cash liquidity for my business.

well......I am just not rich enough.

sounds like a good deal if pay using some dividends card.
