                Deployant not deployment

Why so many people call it deployment clasp
                Its deployant clasp

This has been discussed before in some other forums. While it seems there were more people who believed deployant is the correct word when discussed about this subject, many including some watch manufacturers use the word deployment (Stowa, Steinhart, just to name two that I recently surfed). The perception that deployant is more correct could be due to that deployant is not used in any other way - in fact it cannot be found in English dictionaries. Some said the word deployant is close to (and therefore is originated from) a similar French word that means folding - this sounds like a good explanation but how a French word is connected to a watch accessory I have no idea.

For me both are acceptable as both are widely used and we all know what they mean when used with the word clasp or buckle.

Most Swiss watch manufacturers are located in the French quarter of Switzerland right? And many Marques are of Swiss-French origin. Should not be a surprise if there are French connection if so.
I don't have enuf watches but I will stop buying now!
