hehe..the last 2 is actually the same chassis..it is a ta-05 ifs..i also in sgdrifters once in awhile..

here's my Poison, Kyosho Inferno GT Car.
could not stand the stock parts - so it got an upgrade

Plastic Stock Front hub carrier (top) replaced with aluminium parts
(bottom)
*the wheel hubs themselves were also replaced from alum to aftermarket anodized parts




Wheel Nuts Upgraded (left) to Nylon Locking, the non-nylon locking stock nut is silver (right)
* "Nyloc" nuts basically mean that they are self gripping and less likely to fall out. in edge of the blue nut, u see a whitish band, this is the nylon part that grips the thread when fitted



Upgraded Radio tray posts (the blue pillar things between the horizontal radio tray above and the main chassis below)

*the stock part comes as a plastic pillar fitted using self tapping screws.
this was changed to very rigid machined aluminium parts anodized in blue.
reason is, the servo was upgraded to very high torque/speed. using the stock plastic pillars to hold the radio tray, the entire radio tray would flex under movement. to eliminate this flex. aluminium parts required, the new posts are also bolted into position using 3mm machine screws. in this case a button head Hex screw.
** 2 different lengths of radio tray posts are avaliable from Kyosho. On is marked Inferno 7.5 and the other Inferno 777. the difference is the Inferno 777 version is 2mm shorter than standard. this lowers the radio tray CG by 2mm. every little bit helps apparently. LOL!
***servos mounting was also changed, the stock self tapping screws and plastic bits were removed. the servo now firmly bolted into the radio tray with 3mm button head screws+washer and a nylon locking nut. the black rubber grommets were fitted to the servo as some form of 'buffer' so that hard knocks on the car are not directly transmitted to the servo

Throttle/Brake Linkage system upgraded. The stock parts are shown (top pic), the upgraded version uses parts from the XRAY range of throttle/brake linkages (bottom pic)
* The stock parts are really rudimentary. So an upgrade is a must here.
I wanted the linkages to be bomb-proof and really robust. also the line of action of the servos to be straight with whatever they were moving. the brake linkage now can be adjusted with a little black stopper on the far end as the brake rod is a threaded rod also. Now there is scope for fine adjustment of the brakes and throttle with more precision.




Center Disc Brake Upgraded, Stock (top pic), The aftermarket laser cut part (bottom pic)

* too much free play and too flimsy a stock part, so it deserves an appropriate upgrade.




Chassis Front Torque Rod / Chassis Stiffner Added (Printed white words Kyosho)

* stock Inferno GT does not come with the front torque rod. only the rear rod is present. Mod part added. Do note that you cannot use the rear aftermarket (anadized blue) torque rod from the normal Inferno range, it is too long. Only the front can be modded. if u must mod the rear - then u need to buy 2 front rods.

Stock Flywheel and Clutch Upgraded, Stock (top pic), Anodized blue lightweight flywheel (bottom)


* stock part is a heavy big flywheel and a 2 piece clutch.
unit completely replaced with a new lightwight (faster spool of engine, less inertia) anodized flywheel. the 2 piece clutch was also totally replaced with a racing 3 piece clutch. the engagement of the 3 piece clutch can be adjusted with different clutch spring thickness (0.9mm,1.0mm,1.1mm).
** the above 3 piece is still a centrifugal clutch system. the ultimate would be to transplant a SERPENT CENTAX CLUTCH into the Inferno GT. This Centax clutch is no slip and extremely adjustable. big job,as it will require some fiddling and new engine mounts to get the correct positions/offsets with the main gears


Installation of Turnbuckles on all upper arms, The stock arms (top pic) did not have any adjustment avaliable. Turnbuckles (bottom pic) were installed




With the turnbuckles installed, you can easily fine tune the camber adjustment! A camber guage is shown below (made by serpent racing)



Stock Philips Screws (top pics) all upgraded to Hex driver screws.


* hex or alley key screws give a much better bite with the tools. (the screw head) is less likely to strip compared to a philips head.
** if u are looking for a large selection of screws/fasteners, you can go to Tai Sing Model Shop or a screw wholesale guy like Poey Huat Hardware


Engine Mount Screws from philips to Button Head Hex

*If you dont want to replace all the screws. Strongly advise the engine mount screws replacement. The Philips head strips easy, and you dont want to have a stuck screw in a expensive part like an engine. the screw is M3x8mm. You need to buy a Hex button head screw, and prefebly put a split washer below the screw too.

Anti Roll Bar (ARB) Added

* stock car does not come with ARBs. Both front and rear ARBs added to improve handling and reduce bodyroll. This car will roll in the corners as it is about 3.3kg in weight.



Front Universal CV shafts Added

* stock car comes with a plain dog bone drive shaft.
Universal joint CV added

Stock receiver and battery removed. Rechargable 6.0V Ni-Mh battery added.

* Battery stuck to the inside of the battery compartment with double sided tape. A 3-way switch was also added - now u can charge the battery while it is in the car itself. just plug the charger to the charge lead. Make sure you wire the switch in such a way that charging can only be done when the switch for the car's electronics is in the "OFF" position.



Servos & Receiver Upgraded

* I have a Futaba 3VCS Transmitter radio running on 2.4ghz spread spectrum frequency hopping. Basically I can use just one transmitter radio and store settings for up to 20 cars. So all that was required was a new receiver and some servos for the car - the stock servo is about 4.5kg/cm torque, this KO Propo one is ~11.6Kg/cm!.
** for servo selection, personal preference is KO Propo. Off all the brands on the market, these are still made in Japan. and they have superb applications for all vehicle types. Their servos are also Digital and HRS (high speed response) capable.
*** here is a summary table of what KO servo suits your application best in a nutshell:
1/10 touring car - PDS 2413 Low profile servo
1/8 buggy/onroad - PDS 2367
Monster Truck/Truggy - PDS 2386 high torque

* the original filter weh assembled has only a small slit for air to enter.
the modded one is completey free flowing, has 2 filter elements. the inner white sponge that is lightly oiled and the other grey one that is dry and wont pick up that much dust compared to a exposed oiled surface.

- Race Engine/Upsize engine
- Robust Metal 2-speed from OFNA [the stock center have plastic gears] (need a lot of research, not plug& play)
- Self Custom Paint: F430 & Aston Martin Unpainted Bodies
- TORSEN differentials
- Sponge Tires (....now fitted)

The Madness returns.....


the only other gripe i had about this car (besides the inconsistent shifting 2-speed gearbox) was the factory rubber tyres.

they looked great..... but were hopeless on the track. 1 day out on the track would wear them botak pretty quick. The original Kyosho replacements were so stupid price to pay (one complete set from dealer >100 bucks!) and the rubber came separately from the tire and you had to glue them together. wear the tire out and you have to throw away wheel+tire.
*on a high power R/C car you must glue the tire to the wheel, otherwise you get (i) wheel slipping in tire on acceleration (ii) high cornering G-force rips the tire right off the wheel

The pain in the ass about a 1/8 scale is that on raod tires are next to impossible to find locally. I found some from an Italian specialist tyre brand GRP (www.grpgandini.com) - but the asking price & wait time was insanity also.

Finally, found a brand with a decent price called GQ tires (www.gqproduct.com), mailed them and they replied with a local contact. I ordered 3 sets from them in the end in different coumpounds, took ~2 months to arrive. They came pre-glued to the wheels and pre-trimmed - no need to mess around with fitting and tyre truing/trimming.

a switch from rubber to pure racing sponge should mean heaps of grip on the circuit.
