iphone google map is very good but need another person to lead the way.
best is to plan your route by using www.skypigeon.com or streetdirectory.com
Yeah google map doesnt navigate...only shows you where you are on the map but it's pretty accurate though.

    Nope...don't have an iPhone 4...

most of the places that you want to go, if you have a general idea where it is, just head in that direction. use a phone online navigation app to guide you along.

for gps, the only setback is that if you in a position where there is a upper and lower road, it interpret you on the lower level. this is because it is based on longtitude and latitude. so no 3D to track where your car position is.

usually before heading to a place, i use streetdirectory or online sg map. then just write down turn left @ this junction, turn right @ this junction. stick it on the corner of top windscreen.
      Thanks for the tips

not so common in sg (when i was driving there) but in oz, alot of cars, will cut 3-4 lanes to make a very late turn. obvious they are relying on gps to get them there.
as for software, i use tomtom sg (includes m'sia maps too; but not as comprehensive as sg maps)

At least in sg, you can do U turn at traffic lights. left turn on red, etc. in perth, no u turn. no left turn on red. you miss the turn you are screwed

actually, i have no sense of direction in perth cbd , alot of no left/right turn, then if you miss, become screwed. once there was someone following me, and i ended up going one huge circle. looked damn bloody stupid!!
