  • Indonesia to address haze problem?

"Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa has said that the haze problem will be addressed.

Mr Natalegawa had communicated this assurance to Singapore’s Foreign Minister George Yeo over the telephone after Mr Yeo called him on Friday morning to express concern about the worsening haze situation, and offer Singapore’s assistance to help put out some of the fires in Sumatra.

The phone call was the second made in two days, after Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Yaacob Ibrahim called his Indonesian counterpart Gusti Hatta on Thursday, after the air quality in Singapore was reported to hit the unhealthy range.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that Mr Yeo informed Mr Natalegawa that the PSI went over 100 yesterday and cases of respiratory problems including asthma had increased significantly.

MFA added that both ministers agreed that bilateral cooperation had helped reduce the haze problem in the last three years and could help ameliorate the current situation despite the dry weather."

Well, personally I think the Indonesian Foreign Minister is leading our Georgie Boy by the nose around the camel balls. The same story had been going on for more than ten years, every time Singapore and Malaysia complain about the sad situation to Indonesia, they always say the same thing. They are doing their best and resources are scarce blah blah.......
You fellas think something will be done this year around? I really don't think so.

At least the indonesians are not saying that the haze problem will only happen once in 50 years. They also never blame the haze problem in Singapore is due to the wind direction.... they are addressing the problem...don't complain and complain lah... cheers!
