  • What exactly is the draw about our casinos?

I'm really really curious; just what is it about our casinos that are making people break the law just to have a go?

A MAN who took his mother's driving licence to enter the Resorts World Sentosa casino was fined $2,500 on Monday on two charges.

Tourist guide Chan Yao Xiang, 29, admitted to posing as his mother, Pea Lay Eng, by scanning the barcode of her driving licence to get in, as well as entering the casino without paying the $100 levy on May 17.

Pea, 52, who has a annual membership at RWS, was convicted of helping her son to cheat by personation by suggesting that he use her driving licence to enter without paying the entry levy. She was fined $2,000.

A district court heard that when Chan tried to leave the casino 40 minutes later, he scanned the barcode of his identity card but was not allowed to leave.

A security officer conducted a check and found that he had used his mother's driving licence to enter the casino.

Both could have been jailed for up to five years and/or fined for cheating by personation. Chan could have been fined up to $1,000 for entering the casino premises without paying the levy.

It's not the draw of the casino; it's the gambling addiction. So from a psychological point of view, it is the addiction that makes people do the things they did. Like drugs, sex, even watches

But i dont understand how are they cheapskates if he has an annual membership? And why the hell would you use your mom's DL to enter the casino..... stupid!

As for the attraction; i believe when you impose a restriction/levy you tempt people to look at it more. i believe in openness, because once you "desensitise" people, they become immune to all the "attractions".

Take for example, you like to watch movies, but there is a censor on what you can/cannot watch. you create a temptation to watch the ones you were told not to watch. but if you have no censorship, viewers can watch whatever they want, and eventually, they may even get sick of watching.

Like my croupier school teacher told me; you pay for the space between you and the dealer. I enjoy having a quiet punt from time to time; but I have set myself strict rules on gaming; so that I dont end up becoming an addict.
