  • Why is this happening?

An observation I'll like to discuss.

I often see people posting watches to buy at the "Want-To-Buy" (WTB) thread, even when there are similar watches on sale at the Sales Garage threads, and I wonder why?

Erm...some people prefer sellers to approach them....or they are still sourcing for lower prices than those for sale in our sales garage?

    Hmmm.....food for thoughts

        +1 on the above.

And to add on, sometimes buyer offers a price that is considered low ball to the seller 'at that time'.

I ever experienced offering 3k for a used PO to a seller here and got ignored probably on the basis of being a lowballer.

However, after a month or 2, I saw him eventually reducing the price to 2.8k before being able to sell off from his initial asking price of 3k+. Needless to say, I already moved on thats why when it was offered at 3k before gg to 2.8k, I did not bother to approach him again. .

Hence, put at WTB is probably for peeps who are waiting for the right price. Just like seller also waiting to get the right price

Maybe when we post in the WTB section, there should also be an asking price or even a price range?

You hit the nail! Precisely what I am looking for!! I believe those who requested to buy watches should have already browsed through the Sales section before posting in "WTB". Then why can't he/she include the expected price, or range of price?!

then the buyer will have to put somethig liek this

              "High-ballers stay away "
              "High-ballers will be politely ignored"

You are mistaken. I feel that if one wants to seek a watch, he/she should at least state a price/price range, so that potential sellers can be prepared to approach or ignore. It won't waste both parties' time, right?

For example, A posts to buy a used Sinn U1, while at the same time, there are 6 pieces of it for sale in the Sales section, then what will be the reason(s) A can't get those on sale? If price is the determinant, then bloody state a price he/she wants to buy la

                      conspiracy theory

                      1) not wanting to pay the selling price
                      2) don't want to commit the buying price

                      as for scenario II

maybe the prevailing market rate for sub lv-c is say 12000. buyer willing to pay 11800. however by committing to the price, it means that a seller wanting to sell @ 11600 can in the consumer surplus of 200. the buyer in this case indirectly cannot save 200.

so wait for seller to approach them.

in this case, it is the seller who initiate the deal. in this case, buyer is in the 'driving' seat. this is because it can be seen that seller wanted to sell not buyer want to purchase.

I can understand but at least there should be a price range, right? For example, "want to buy a 'V' series, pre-own Submariner with price around $5k to $6K", or something like that. So if a potential seller has one such watch to sell, and willing to sell in that price range, then it will benefit both parties, right? If a seller only wants to sell above $7k, then he/she will not even bother to call on the buyer, right?

Of course, you can. Even $1k, if you'd like, but at the end of the day, whether or not got people come knock on your door is another thing. So at least, if I have a Sinn U1 for sale, and am willing to sell at your asking price, I will contact you. But things will get frustating when you don't put a price. Why?

Citing your example, you WTB a Sinn U1, and this time, don't state a price. I got one to sell and my asking price is $1.9k. So I PM you and you started to ask me for pics, watch specs, etc. Ok, I go take pics, download somewhere, paste the pics to send to you, copy the watch specs, send to you, etc.

And the next thing you said, "ok, I offer $1.4k"!
