Of course brand new would be better.
Save a bit more and go for brand new.
Will feel more "safe" in heart if buying brand new.

For me personally, I would go for the new one simply because of the thought that I am the first person wearing the watch and I am 100% sure it's a safe buy. I would just save a bit more to buy the watch I really want.

used to have the thought that I would only buy BNIB becos I wanna be the first owner....

Until my friend influenced me to try pre-owned and this allowed me to buy and sell and wear different watches without coughing too many top ups...

Personal view: Nowadays, pawnshop like money max does carry good quality. Worth taking a look.

Definitely pre-owned unless I can't find the model in 2nd hand markets or I plan to own the watch for life (which is unlikely). Used to buy my watches brand new but i found the depreciation to be ridiculous when I sell them off. I would rather let someone else soak up the depreciation.

But when I buy pre-owned, I will only consider those in mint condition with complete box and papers unless it's a vintage watch

For me, personally, old is gold. That's why i have lots of old stuff at home. Haha

                      • In the ADs, many customers have tried the same watch you'd be buying anyway.
It is very rare you get to buy an untouched watch from AD. Yes your name might be there first but its most likely been molested before you bring it home.

                        • for my firts rolex purchase, I will go for a preowned

                          • it's depends on the watch condition and gap between new and re-sale value. definitely will aim for pre-owned first.

                            • If the owner has passed on suddenly and violently , knowing this will u still buy his watch?

Except for my 1st pre-owned Rolex 6694 and IWC portofino (a gift), all my watches are bought new. 6694 is worn by my brother, and I knew my friend who gave me the IWC well.

Really love seeing many watches selling here, and ebay, but never get myyself to take a step further. Being a kiasu chinese middle age fellow, and to think myself going to spend multiple thousands to buy a 2nd hand watch, it is so damn difficult. Knowing myself, I will be wondering why the guy sells his watch (whether bad luck or something), lost on the race track or whatever if I buy it. Don't think I will have that peace of mind should something bad happens when wearing a pre-owned watch. not knowing its history. Don't think I wll ever buy from a pawn shop for sure.

So I will continue to save my blood and sweat money to pursue my new 14060m and solid gold rolex or give it all up for just a PP aquanaut/nautilus. It will be a slow and tedious process I am sure, but I will enjoy the fruits of the hard labor.

How many of you are of the same thinking?

Does the history of the watch affect your purchase?

                              cheers

                              • For my first Rolex I am still torn between brand new and pre-owned.
As it is a reward for the hardwork on the pass year. The experience with a local AD has it merit but a pre-owned unit is rather attractive from the pricing side...
