    Hi ghost,

Hmm...must it strictly be $8k and below? If she's willing to cross the line a little, I think you can get either a JLC Master Control or Ultra Thin.....else you can get a Baume & Mercier and save a lot of $$$....B & M might not be very branded but they are quiet cool in my opinion...either way, let us know when you've finally made up your mind!

Any recommendations as to what one can/ should buy?

                Watches are soooo pricey nowadays.

I've a few rollies and pannies so went looking for a blancpain but those things are seriously expensive! Even for a no-frills time n date function fifty fathoms, it'd be way way out of budget!

Day-umm! My other idea was to buy an all-gold rollie for fun. Again, no joy.

Any suggestions? I'm not v keen on another rollie/pam

Watch needs to be brand new (unless it's an all-gold rollie sub! <- wishful thinking )
You can get a lot of nice stuff, Ghost.

                1. IWC Portuguese chrono
                2. Ulysse Nardin Dual Time 42mm
                3. Chopard GMT
                4. Pam 111, 112 or 104
                5. IWC mk 16
                6. Cartier Santos 100XL
                7. Ulysse Nardin Marine Chrono 43mm
                8. IWC Aquatimer, if the wedding is in Bali
                9. Corum Admiral's Cup 44mm, also good if it's in Phuket
                10. IWC Top Gun single chrono, if the wedding is a tandem skydiving!!

                Good luck!

Thanks for all the inspired replies! Been busy with work and didnt get a chance to check out the forum these past few days.

Yeah in a bit of a (happy) predicament.

I really appreciate all the suggestions, but alas for whatever reason, some brands just don't appeal to me so much.

IWCs are nice and i dont wanna step on anyone's toes - it's just that i find too many act-cool banker/lawyer/doctor types wearing it and trying to show how alterna-cool they are not to be sporting an "ah pek rolex". Cmon dude, it' an american brand! (although by same argument, rolex is a british brand )
It just doesnt have that badge-zen. I'd rather get a glashutte

Corum, again, damn swee but no kick

Pams i like, but have 4 already...and i think a bit saturated liao. Oh-oh then what abt rolex? Yeah, but ah pek somehow always has affinity and soft spot for my rolex

It's true that i should get a brand new watch, but i'm starting to think a nice vintage watch could be a romantic gift too....dammit where are all you vintage blancpain FFs!

                    Congrats...

... again on your impending nuptials! Here's my personal take. It's a gift from your wife-to-be for a watch to wear on your big day. So, it's "the wedding watch" and will never be sold, only to be passed on as "the watch daddy wore when he married mummy" or something like that. So it has to be a precious metal, classic and dress/formal (in the contemporary usage). Steel and sporty looking watches are out, along with dark dials unless they are countervailed by classic aethetics (eg, see the PP Calatrava JW has for sale at the moment). It should be classically sized (relative to you is fine) and I think seconds and date indications (guichet only unless very subtle) are fine. Leather strap. Not exhaustive, not absolute, but at a decent level of granularity, those are "the rules" (according to me ;p). So, to the extent you follow these rules (and assuming that all mechanical non-quartz non-battery movements are fairly equal), where does that leave you? Something like the Longines Conquest Heritage in rose gold and small seconds at 6 (about 4k new I believe), or perhaps the GO Senator Automatic in rose gold (7-8k I think, or is it 11k?). How much are the JLC ultrathins these days?

Have a great day of it.

                    W

                      do you mean a pair?

                      for groom?

                      for bride?

as a pair, for 8k budget would be limited.

for groom/bride - explorer II. why? if you believe the hype that the current design will be replaced.

non rolex, consider JLC master control series, since i dont think you intend to sell the watch. only watch brand that can boast about the most number of patent in watch making.

you may want to consider cartier as well.

actually you already have made the first step in deciding a watch.

                      1) set budget
                      2) set preference

with these 2 conditions, your choice has already been narrowed. i believe you know what you want to get, it is just that you want to have more options to think.

one of my great shifu once told me. reduce options. the choice will be clear

actually, should be more correctly said that it went for

6950*1.07=7436.50 if payment by CASH or Nets. Still a good price tho.

If CC then add another further 2 percent I think
