      I doubt so.

Singapore is well known for its anti drug laws and it should remain as it is. Appearing to have soften up will really open floodgates and cause more harm to innocent people on the island.

That is why i have said that hope for MIRACLE will happen on him for the President pardon. Anyway, i feel that Singapore should have abolish the sentence of death penalty, cause that is really an inhuman punishment. Maybe can follow country like USA to have heavy punishment like imprisonment for up to 80 or even 100 years cause i feel that you can punish people who have done wrong by taking away their freedom but not their life.

The people would prefer no dealth penalty. However, they also acknowledge that this penalty is the main reason that Singapore is veer safe and low in drugs, weapon and killing crimes.

My stand is that if someone takes away another person's innocent life, then he needs to be made to pay for it. Of course, there be no end to debate on this like a GP essay. Different people have different beliefs.

I believe that to prevent high crime rate or people to commit serious crime is through education and not punishment. To me, death penalty is an inhuman punishment that will only happen in an uncivilized country, we can use punishment like life imprisonment without parole for serious crime as he is still paying for what he have done but just in a longer process. But still i agree what you have said that different people have different beliefs.
            Cheers.

In response to the post on following US example, not all states in the US abolished capital punishment...

Just recently, in the state of Utah, was a prisoner executed... The prisoner's execution method of choice: by firing squad... Prisoners are given a choice how they want to be executed in that state... Go figure...

Sorry, but no sympathy for drug traffickers. Some may remember the ozzie who was hanged, and the major roar that followed in oz. a clear message must be sent to those who traffick drugs. the risks are high, the stakes are equally high, those who are involved were fully aware of the consequences prior to engaging in this illicit activity. m'sia also executes drug traffickers, so it should be no excuse that he didnt know.

Just curious mate, how do you justify spending X-yrs on a prisoner who is of no use to the community. Why delay the inevitable? Why should your tax $$ be spent on inmates who will never be released. On one hand, citizens talk about gov't blowouts; but on the other certain citizens are willing to spend money to clothe, feed, shelter crims. Can't have your cake and eat too!

wanted to add to previous post, but not allowed.

I for one support capital punishment for drug trafficking. The profit margin for this trade is too high and without sufficient deterrence, we may end up with lots of social problems. Before we have sympathy for the chap, kindly also remember the numerous families destroyed by these traffickers

This topic is going to open up some serious debate here. There is no sheer success in a society whether there is capital punishment or not. But one thing I wish all to be mindful of is: Know what you are reading, and read with an open mind. Not "what you see, is what you get". There is always a story to every criminal who committed a crime. It is whether anyone takes up the case, hype it up, and make the whole world throw pity.

there are several countries with death penalties for drug offences, vietnam, malaysia and singapore. drug traffickers unerstand they will face death when caught, but retuns are high. so basically the know the stakes are high.

same as the les majeste law in thailand, so if you can't stand the law, don't step into the country.

they challenge the law, they will pay the price.

actually it's quite simple,u commit the crime and u pay the price as simple as that.If he knows that he'll be facing this sentence in the end,why will he still commit this crime in the 1st place? As the chinese saying "早知当初何必今日".

In life you should have the basic knowledge that some things can be done and some things cannot be done at all.

Death or not is really a matter of opinion.
A country will have to decide on one.

High risk high returns. You can traffic in a country that have no death penalty or even less chance of being caught. But the returns will be lower.

It is well known that it means death if failed.
Like stuntman who fly over things or even sky diving.

Know the risk and face the consequence
