I had the please of participating in my first ever online watch auction on the Antiquorum website late last night. It was quite scary at the beginning not totally understanding the bidding process, but after watching a few Lots go through, it was very straight forward.

The scariest part was when my screen saver came on and I had to move the cursor to get rid of it! I was afraid that I might accidentally click on a bidding button when a 6-figure watch was being auctioned!

I didn't manage to bid high enough for any of the watches I targeted, but I was within a whisker of getting a superb Hublot until I was trumped by a couple of hundred USD dollars by someone in Russia.

It was a great experience and I can't wait to try again for the next auction.

Has anyone here successfully bought a watch through this auction house?

Is there anyway to realy inspect for scratches on a watch on an online auction? There was a Pam 202/A up for auction with Chrisities in Switzerland 2 months ago and when I emailed them asking for pictures they said it was best I was present. I passed since I am in Jakarta and they in Geneva.

To be honest, I wasn't too sure about that too until I found out about the ratings system they give on each watch. It's quite a detailed report on each watch, dial, movement, etc. I don't yet know how honest or open they are on the watches, so I am only bidding for watches in a certain price range. So if I do get burnt, it won't be as painful.

The physical catalogue has slightly more details than the online version too.

I forgot to mention that the experience was made better because you can actually view the auction live on video sans the loss of audio.

hi, i did once.
won myself a vintage ploprof.
but i did not bid live, just used the auto. bidder.
pls factor in the additional buyer's premium (?) as well as shipping fees.
when my ploprof was due for collection in hk, i had a friend helped me collect.
she noticed that the watch was not working and insisted that they repaired it.
came back a few days later and it was ok.

I was thinking of making a trip for the Auction in Hong Kong this time around. I'm looking at the catalogue now. Lot 190 looks intriguing, Rolex Submariner Comex. The indicative price is USD 25k -36k, but I have a gut feeling that it will exceed this easily.
