I did my BEng in England. Prior to that, I was doing my part time in NTU, but as it's a 5 years course, I kept wondering should I continued to endure the next 5 years or go abroad and do it in 2 years time.

In the end, I applied my uni thru UCAS, and travelled alone to a foreign land for my study.

Never regret the decisions. Total spent $60K, this include all my expenses such:
1.0 air tickets (returning every year)
    2.0 tuition fees
    3.0 makan
    4.0 clothing
    5.0 accomodation
6.0 books and photocopying (zapping in UK is ex)
7.0 travelling among UK and western europe
    8.0 condoms..
    Current Inventory
    Explorer II Black (M)
    Submariner LV (M)
    Datejust TT
    Omega Speedmaster Date
    Adidas (my 10yrs workhorse)

Did my basic degree in local uni. Then went to UK for my post-grad.

Think first and foremost, cost is a concern. You wouldn't want to go on a shoestring budget and everyday eat bread or maggi mee there.

That's why I opted for UMIST instead of LSE even though was accepted in both. London was way too expensive, while Manchester was much cheaper. So can have a proper meal and a few pints instead of maggi mee.

So if can... it's always good to live in another land and gain another perspective. That's more valuable than the degree than you are there for. But of course, have fun but don't lose sight of the original purpose why you are there.

        did overseas study.

personally i feel that it is an enriching experience. however, going overseas to study, one must be open to culture diversity.

if not, it will not be as rewarding and enriching as it is for some.

studying methods, teaching methods, living lifestyle, so many things different from home country.

there are pros and cons studying local or overseas.

study local - dont need to worry so much about expenses because live with family, most things taken care of. while studying overseas, need to budget.
study local - if need any help(non-academic) can always ask around or go to parents, study overseas - have to take care most of the things oneself.

i feel that if one is able to study overseas, one should embrace the opportunity. there is so much more to learn and seek.

actually in what u learn up to university allows specific skills to do a job. however, if not street smart also no use. u may have PSLE education, but u can be earning more than what a graduate.

to be a academic certification only says so and so has attain this level of knowledge ACADEMICALLY. the society, or working life is a different ball game altogether. no books can teach u that.

correct Triton, all textbook if forget can buy from emporium paperback edition. Life on the other hand no manual, you fu*k it up, you suffer the consequences. Not like uni, can appeal etc etc.

In Singapore, 1 thing our 'Powers that be' emphasized on education and more education thus as a result, local employers and all their bodies judge ur competency by ur paper. So they rather hire a cock with papers and a person with good business acumen without paper.

Very sad here, society like dat. I think in 5 yrs they hire toilet cleaner min qualification u need is 'o' level.

i personally thinking of doing private uni..In future when I saved enough, I can't rule out migration. Won't 1 my kids to be exposed to this type of stress level.
