  • Two Week Old Pup Needs Help

    Dear All

I came across this thread in Hardwarezone http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/sh....php?t=1949138

It is a very, very sad and pitiful case of a two week old pup fighting for survival.

For now, please pray for his recovery.

Some of us at HWZ and Dogsforum are donating some money to offset the cost of the medical bills.

Current 'saviour' is a pregnant mum, who is expected to deliver in June. She hopes that the pup and his brother can be adopted by a caring and loving home.

I would love to adopt a pet but already have an aging cat at home.

In the interim, do let us know how SG-ROC can assist. I'm confident of the generousity and helpfulness of our fellow forumers here!

If funds are inadequate, many of us will be willing to donate too

Thanks - just to say that I have no relationship / dealings with the owner, and am doing this to help out a puppy in need.

No worries. I'm not a member of HWZ forum, and I'm sure many are not too. For those who are, perhaps you can help by updating SG-ROC on the progress. Alternatively, you may wish to PM the owner to post the puppy thread in this forum also.

HMmm...well I think you are wrong about that...if you didnt know..SG-ROC popped out from HWZ. The old birds here are mostly from HWZ esp all the co-founders.

Though I am a HWZoner I dun go there everything la...I prefer sg-roc. Haha

You don't really need to be a member at HWZ.

                    POSTED 2 MAY 2008:

Hi all, 2 weeks ago my friend saved 2 puppies from drowning, they had lost their mummy.. I am now taking care of them.. But unfortunately 1 of the puppy is very sick now.. I am not working so i cant afford to pay his medical bill, but i have discussed with my friend, i am very upset that i think she is not going to let this poor puppy to receive any medical treatment because the vet told me the puppy is very weak, he may die, so i feel that she doesnt want to "waste" the $ treating him..

and she keeps asking y suddenly the puppy like that, as if i want him to fall sick.. And even thinking not to pay his bill since she is the one who found them and pass to me ask me to help them to look for people to adopt them.. I have found someone to adopt them, but when the person know that the puppy is very sick, he refused to take him already..

I am giving birth in June, and i am not working, so its very hard for me to pay his bill.. I have paid a $300 deposit, but i am not sure when can he goes home, so the bill might just accumulate.. The vet does not know what illness is he suffering from yet.. My friend found the puppies on 15/04/08, and I pick the puppies from my friend on 18/04/08, but on the 25/4/08/, the puppy started to lose his appetite, and has not pass motion for 2-3 days..

He did not drink milk at all, i tried to force feed him but he spit out everything, on the 27/04/08 i brought him to Mt pleasant clinic at east coast road, the vet put laxative inside his butt and he finally poo.. And the vet ask me to give him glucose and vitamins to see if he gets better, but after 2 days, he is still very weak, and yesterday i brought him to the Mt pleasant animal hospital..

He has been hospitalised.. The vet deworm the puppy and is now feeding him every 2 hrs to see if he gets better.. Last night i called the vet to check how is the puppy doing, she told me he was doing quite well that he drinks the milk himself from the saucer.. But this morning when i called again, she said he did not eat or drink again..

I just visit the puppy in the afternoon, the puppy lick my hand when he saw me, i am so sad that i cant do anything to help him.. He even cried (i took the video of him crying).. it breaks my heart.. I talk to the vet and he says he wants to do a blood test for him, but he is too small (550gm), they only manage to get 1-2 drops of blood from him which is not enough for him to do the test..

They will try again tonight or tomorrow.. And if the test shows that his blood count is low, they might want to do a blood tranfusion for him.. I really hope he will recover and also hope that if any one can help him? Any amount.. I will scan the bill, pictures, video of the sick puppy and send to those who wish to donate for his medical bill..

                    POSTED : 2 MAY 2008

This afternoon i went down to Mt Pleasant animal hospital to visit him.. The vet still didnt manage to get his blood sample as he is still very weak, they doesnt want to stress the puppy.. Last night he did ate some food, but when i go down in the afternoon, he did not eat his food again, but they force feed him a bit, and 1 good news is that around evening time when i called up the hospital to check the puppy, he had started to eat again.. But he did not poo.. Sigh.. And the vet has removed the drip.. And the vet told me that there's something abnormal in his intestine/stomach area, which seem to have enlarged or moving around, they are not sure what is the "thing" that caused him to be like this, until they do the blood test.. He had put on a bit of weight, 29/4/08-550gm, 01/05/08-610gm.. Though its not much, but at least he is getting better..

The vet just called up, she said the puppy looks a lot better today, they are going to do a blood test for him and an x ray to find out what happen to him.. As his stomach is still very bloated.. The x ray cost about $70 and the blood test is around $40.. He has been hospitalised for 4 days and the bill is about $300 now, after adding the test they going do for him today the bill will be about $400 plus..

The vet cant tell me what are the percentage that he can recover, but she told me the chances are low.. Sigh.. But i really want to try to do the best for him, than to put him to sleep, he has the right to fight for himself, i dont want to make the decision that he will live or die.. Its so cruel..

The other day when i go down to see him, his back was facing me, when i open up his cage and touch his back, he quickly turned to me, and lick my hands, trying very hard to walk to me, but kept falling..

                    POSTED : 2 MAY 2008

Hi im back from the hospital.. The vet has done an x ray for him, the lungs are ok, but there's fluid in his stomach, which is not normal, but they didnt manage to do a blood test for him.. The cause of it is still unknown, but there're quite a few reasons that caused the fluid to retain in his stomach.. 1st : liver problem, 2nd : rejecting of food thus lack of protein in blood, 3rd : diahhorea and vomitting.. But the vet said that the 3rd one is out.. So she thinks it should be the 1st or 2nd reason that caused this.. They might need to do an ultrasound for him after they do a blood test for him which cost about $200.. i have check with the vet for the bill again, she told me for today, the bill is about $300, inclusive of the x ray.. But not the blood test coz they didnt manage to get blood sample from the puppy.. Thanks for all the concerns and help..

Dr Valerie Ng just called me to update me about the puppy's condition.. They need to do a blood transfusion for him as he is quite pale, but they failed to do so as the puppy's arteries are too flat.. Currently they do have the blood bank, so do not need to find a donor yet.. And the chances of a bad reaction after the blood transfusion are quite low as he has not done a transfusion before, pray hard that if he needs to go for the transfusion, everything goes well.. And they just forced feed him again coz he doesnt want to eat.. Maybe he is quite full coz i fed him just now.. they will keep trying to do the transfusion for him, but not today coz just nw try liao but cant.. Tmr i will go down to see him again.. Update u all once i go visit him..

I think this amount of donations i have collected for the puppy is more than enough for the time being, because after deducting the $300 i paid for him (from 29/4/08 - 2/5/08), there are still $380 left, if no test has been done, still can last him for about 4-5 more days in hospital.. If he still needs to stay there any longer or do a lot of test then might not be enough, will check with the vet later.. Thanks all for the donations.. and i am willing to donate about $100 for him too..

                      POSTED : 3 MAY 2008

Dr Jean-Paul Ly from ARC just called me, he asked me not to leave the puppy there any longer.. Coz this can stress the puppy and they shouldnt have fed him with puppy food as he is only 2 weeks old, he may die, but they dun want to hospitalise him, they might do blood transfusion for him, ask me to bring home take care of him.. and change the diet for the puppy, also that the fluid in his stomach could be lack of protein, ask me to bring the puppy dwn at 230pm..

                      POSTED : 3 MAY 2008

Hi everyone, I dunno whether i'm back with good news or bad news. Good news is that he is now discharged from MP.

Before discharging, MP vet told me "dunno what's wrong with her, might be liver problems". We couldn't be bothered to listen too much, just wanna get him out of MP ASAP.

Anyway pls take note when we went to ARVC at Balestier, we changed his name to boy boy ><; sounds more cute.

Dr Ly attended to him, the moment he listen to his heartbeat, immediately he told us there's a hole in his heart. Dr Ly immediately did a blood transfusion for him(hope there's no bad reaction), he cry until so ke lian. Will upload the video later.

Dr Ly is really good, i really regretted not bringing him there earlier, wasting close to $500 at MP but get no result (later will scan the receipt). Dr Ly told us his heart problem caused the retention of fluids in his stomach, because the heart cannot pump the blood properly, somehow resulting the fluid discharged from his veins to his stomach

Sorry too many medical terms. Just feed him milk, he drank 30ml. 1st time he drink so much since we found something wrong with him.

Dr Ly told us to bring him home because warding him will cause him a lot of stress, which he may die from it. He told us to go back 3 days later for follow up(go back earlier if he gets worse). Now we will wait until he is better then Dr Ly will perform an op for him, ard 1 month later..

                      POSTED : 3 MAY 2008

Yes, he will definitely need to go thru this op, Dr Ly is quite confident as he mentioned that the puppy is a fighter, he will survive, though the chances are only 50/50.. Lets do our best to help the puppy..

i am so sad when i saw him going thru all the pain just now.. pls see video.. uploading now.. pls turn on speaker..

                      POSTED : 3 MAY 2008

The puppy is now sleeping in my arms.. got to give him some warmth, like the kangaroo n mummy, which the vet strongly encouraged.. hope this helps him.. have to feed him every 2hrs, going to feed him again soon..

                      POSTED : 3 MAY 2008

i just fed boy boy.. he drinks about 20ml.. he is a lot better now.. his gum and tongue is not so white already, now more pinkish.. stay in MP for so long his mouth never become pink at all.. hope he faster recover.. then can play with his brother, ah pui..

By the way i am giving birth in June, by then i will not be able to look after boy boy already.. sigh.. hope someone will be able to look after him and give him a good home.. though i really hate to part with them (boy boy and ah pui)..

                      POSTED : 3 MAY 2008

Anyway Dr Valerie Ng called me just now to check on the puppy.. I dont know if i should thank her for the concern or blame them for their tardiness.. i told her that i brought him to the ARVC and the vet found out he has got heart problem, she was like .... oh how was it then? i told her everything the vet has done for him.. From the way she replied i think she also feel very awkward..
