A STUDENT, riding a train to school in Woodlands on June 19 morning last year fell asleep on the way.
She was awakened by a hand on her right breast.
On Tuesday, Hairul Rahman, 27, was jailed for six weeks for outraging her modesty.
The admissions clerk with the Singapore General Hospital was seated on the right of the victim, who had placed her haversack over her chest.
He admitted putting his hand underneath her bag and placing it on her breast. Just then the train reached Marsiling station and Hairul disembarked. But the girl followed him, pummeling his back with her fists.
This attracted the attention of a SMRT officer, who called the police.
Defence lawyer Christopher Bridges said Hairul had acted on the spur of the moment and had apologised to the victim and even given her a cheque of $1,000 as compensation.
Hairul could be jailed for up to two years, fined and caned.
