  • Malay Wedding..

Hey guys, my girlfriend of 8 years has recently brought up the topic of tying the knot. Yikes!!
Knowing myself that it's really about time too!!
I'm kinda modern guy who doesn't really wanna go through the hassle of a typical traditional malay under-the-block wedding and prefer maybe a simple hotel banquet.

    So here goes..
I'm a muslim so the wedding menu has to be HALAL.
Maximum expected guest turnout should be around 300 plus person.
Would prefer a very cosy and romantic ambience.

Any bros got any suggestion to where i should hold my future wedding??
Appreciate if could provide the menu rates too.!
    Thanks!

that is lagun sari... the one at joo chiat.. not really a great place.. my fren had a relative wedding held there.. he feedback that the staff were quick to serve/top up the food but there wasn't enough to last through the whole day...
ate there before for normal family dinner... food was so so only.

you can try tepak sireh... had a company function and food was fuzion type.. east meets west..

you can also try orchid country club...

but bro, imho, the wedding function not so imptlah... my first girlfriend of 10 yrs and me got married with a void-deck wedding and now we have 3 kids... still going strong... a friendly advice, don't have too grand a wedding and then start of your marriage with debts here and there...

      good luck in your search!

I would say, work out your budget. A few choices, maybe is spend lesser on wedding go on honeymoon to europe or somewhere of ur choice. Or go for a hotel banquet but there goes the honeymoon most of the time.

one of my work mates tied the knot about 2-3yrs ago, and now seperate due to $$$ issues. also according to the wifey the hubby was having abit of on the side action, thus the breakdown.

i suspect that they spend way beyond their means, and a prime example was their wedding, very lavish.

angmoh liddat one. always go overboard, then complain no money. i so many times hear no money, but spend like no tomorrow, where to have savings, somemore when they see me buying reduced produce, coupon discounts, end of day bread, cakes abit old, they all laugh at me say i cheapskate, but my lifestyle cannot compare, since i spend very little. somemore i spend my money saved here elsewhere *cough*watches*chokes*

That's the point.. I'm definitely AGAINST a grand wedding.
The hassle of changing into different outfits and meeting 1000++ guest really puts me off. Anyway both of us just started planning and thank god she also agreed to a nice, small scale ceremony. thanks for the concern bro!

                      first of all, congrats!

i attended a wedding reception at Rasa Sentosa last year. you can have the solemnisation at the sea-side (if weather permits). very nice ambiance.

price is about $30+/head for hi-tea style lunch after the solemnisation. they should have HALAL menu. you can call and check it out. but work towards your budget.

however, most of the time you can recoup the costs thru the gifts from the guests.

Let's just take this as a very good example and hope it wouldn't happen to any of us!

yes you are right, i know one young guy in s'pore who got married, and his newly married wife bought new whitegoods, tvs, renovations, and racked up a bill of 60k on credit cards, and quite alot more on renovation loans. etc

he was working for my uncle and was not performing well, so he was removed, and he literally cried that the banks would foreclose on him.

very sad case. somemore, when he look back he regret buying all the items that he did claiming that he could have made do with what he originally had.
