    • Guys, I thought it was established the U-boat Miki sold was a genuine old school version with quartz or Miyota movements?

      • Good Lord, i read through the entire 13 pages only to realise it dated back to January 2010.

And yes, to the others having a pop at that certain Miki chap, do read the thread in its entirety before shooting off. There are twists and turns galore to this epic saga.

And no, i am not Leftfield nor his distant cousin..........

        • This thread makes an interesting post lunch read. pastilence666 has clearly proven a point that a name sullied remains so till "time immemorial" despite contrary indications. Its a shame that after a year from TS' last post, Miki Khoo's name is still hung up to dry.

                    • You sure got cheated!

What the hell man! Italy company that Uses Asian movement and sell so expensive! People really fooled by the brand man. Based on U-boat publicity, I expect them to use a minimum Ronda and not jap quartz. If buying a U boat with jap quartz movement, might as well head to JB to buy hublot or rolex with jap/Chinese movement. Next time, dun only see price tag when buying watches. And buy from AD or reputable 2nd hand dealer only unless you are buying some expensive and limited edition watch like The Freak and etc. Hehe

Watch is real. In the early days, U-boat used japanese automatic and quartz movements.
U-boat prices in the early days were of course, a lot more affordable.

Bro, I'm sure you're posting this in jest as the U-boat in question was not fake and in U-boat's defense, they're prices were substantially lower in the past when they were using Japanese movements and thus pegged at a reasonable price point. Since you used the example of Hublot, no offense to their fans but I'd say that this brand was even more blatant at overcharging when they used ETA movements and charged AP prices.
That said, every brand uses some form of differentiation & distinction to justify their absurd prices, for U-boat, it'll be their big, bold designs; Ball for their luminousity, Patek for their...(hmm...dunno the answer to that myself...)
This may sound cliched but the bottom line is if you like it, buy it.
I rationalize that there is little rationality in this watch preoccupation.

                          • Well, paying more than 1k for a jap quartz just sound like burning money. Hublot and Rolex knockoff can be easily found in JB. There are also grade A - AP, panerai, PP, omega and the list goes on. Not directing at any brand. To those that paid "extra" for brand that uses ETA movement and pass off as in-house movement with little modification, hope they not banging the wall now. Hahaha.
