Fully agreed Fred. The one at the losing end will still be at the expense of Singaporeans (since many Singaporeans dont have the luxuries to apply for a PR in another country or own an assets overseas_.

I forsee the risk in property investments here as the up rise of the prices are all created artificially( well controlled), since 80% land are state owned. I cant imagine what will be the consequences if confidences are lost.

My husband said he foresees Singapore having to make an agreement with Indonesia over the long term rental/usage of Batam in the future so Singapore can grow and Singapore has a place to house their future citizens.

At the end of the day, it's a whole wide world out there.
Our ancestors move out of India, China & Indonesia to here years ago to escape famine, lack of opportunity, Qing dynasty oppression, political turmoil, civil unrest, pandemic & natural disasters.

Singapore is just an island with nothing much to give.
Right now, if there's no good paying job, no career advancement, no good business opportunities & expansion & everything is expensive, people who can move, will leave for good.
People who can't will make sure they can soon.

People will not tolerate career change to survive.
People will always seek stability.
If we keep asking a graduate to work till he/she's 40s only to be laid off for old age & then forced to be lowly payed & recognized cleaner, insurance agent, MLM marketeers, security guard, property agent, PE teacher, primary & sec school teacher, lecturer & taxi driver, then something is very wrong.
Do we seriously think an ex-MNC can land the same job with same pay once he get laid off in Singapore after the age of 40?

Why would we go back for reservist, serve NS & pay taxes when we get lousy jobs in casino?
Why we let ourselves & our children attend schools here when there are far better ones Ivy League, NYU, Cambridge & Oxford?

There's China, India, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, South Africa and even South Americas...

But like me, I have migrated to Taiwan where housing are cheaper than Malaysia in the outskirts & there are many jobs paying expat allowances in nearby China & Vietnam.
After tax, I'm earning 7x more than if I stayed in Spore to be taxi driver after being unemployed for a year & previously laid off for 3 times in less than 10 years with still unpaid-off mortgage?

I dun think anyone with the paper qualification will go thru what I gone thru sitting down & waiting.

I dun think ppl will wait to die & will die easily....we are all tough, independent & smart.
But someone up there thinks we are not smart like him of his family...
Well, if he's so good, why he still need to be around?

12,583 applied for 2,670 BTO flats

As of 2 pm today, the Housing Development Board (HDB) received a total of 12,583 applications for four recently launched Build-To-Order (BTO) projects.

The four projects, Montreal Dale in Sembawang, Segar Grove in Bukit Panjang, SkyVille@Dawson and SkyTerrace@Dawson in Queenstown, were launched on Dec 15.

Montreal Dale received 1,377 applications for 424 flats, Segar Grove received 1,341 applications for 528 flats, and Skyville @Dawson and SkyTerrace @ Dawson together received 9,865 applications for 1,718 flats.

About 70 per cent of the applicants are first-time flat buyers. The rest have bought subsidised flats in the past. Ninety-five per cent of the flats will be set aside for first-timers.

There has been strong interest in the two Dawson projects, given their choice location.

Buyers who are unsuccessful in getting flats in this BTO exercise may wish to know that the next BTO launch will be held on Jan 5 next year when buyers can look forward to another 1,300 BTO flats in Choa Chu Kang and Hougang.

HDB will continue to launch more BTO projects in 2010 if there is sustained demand for new flats.
