AT LEAST 202 countries have received the green light from Fifa to beam the 2010 World Cup in their territories but Singapore remains one of those yet to resolve who will hold the broadcast rights.
SingTel and StarHub are currently locked in a bidding war and world governing body Fifa has yet to decide on the winning proposal.
A StarHub spokesman told The Straits Times on Monday: 'We have submitted a proposal to Fifa for the rights to broadcast the 2010 World Cup in Singapore. We are awaiting a response from Fifa.'
SingTel also confirmed on Monday that it had submitted a bid for the World Cup rights.
Both StarHub and SingTel added that they are unsure when Fifa will decide on the bid winner.
Regardless, it is likely that the consumer will have to bear the cost of this bidding war between the two telcos if they want to catch the live action from South Africa.
