$500 and $200??....
SBS Transit and SMRT buses have shown a general improvement in performance, a regular review revealed.
According to the Public Transport Council (PTC), bus operators have largely met the standards for quality of service for the period Dec 1 2008 to May 31 2009.
However, both were still fined $500 and $200 respectively for instances of non-compliance with standards. They were a result of buses failing to adhere to scheduled frequencies and overloading.
In the previous period, SBS Transit and SMRT were fined $4,500 and $100 respectively.
A PTC spokesperson said both operators have complied with the standards on service provision and schedule trips operated. Both have also continued to keep their bus breakdown and accident rates low.
The PTC tracks and reviews the public transport operators' performance and will announce the next six-montly results in April 2010.
