Ris Low: I'm disappointed with myself, but will not give up crown
Miss Singapore World 2009 has confirmed her conviction of five charges of misappropriation, cheating using illegally obtained credit cards, and impersonating their users' identities in interviews with two Chinese evening dailies, Shin Min Daily News and Lianhe Wanbao.
Below are the questions and answers between Miss Low and Lianhe Wanbao:
Reporter: Is it true you have been convicted of misusing and cheating using illegally obtained credit cards?
Ris: Yes, it is all true.
Reporter: Do you think you have disappointed Singaporeans?
Ris: Not really, but I am disappointed with myself. If I can do it again, I will not make the same mistake.
Reporter: Will you give up your crown and withdraw from the Miss World pageant?
Ris: Of course I am not willing. I don't want to give up my dreams. But if the organisers want me to, I will accede to their request. It would only be fair.
Reporter: Do you regret entering the pageant now, since your past has been exposed?
Ris: No, how many people out there would continue to pursue their dreams, fully aware of their shortcomings, and not give up despite the pressure? If there are any regrets, then I only have myself to blame for doing those things in the past.
Reporter: Are you worried that this spate of bad publicity will affect your future?
Ris: Of course I'm worried about my career, but I'm not so concerned when it comes to relationships. I believe the man who loves me will be able to overlook my past, especially since I am truly remorseful.
Reporter: Do you have any thoughts about this whole matter?
Ris: Who does not have a past? Who has not committed wrongs? Actually, being sentenced to probation does not make it a criminal record, but it is made serious because it is a legal one. This incident has made me appreciate the love and support from my family members.*****************************

The Moral Higher Ground
I don't know much about beauty contest rules. But they should make it clear if they are canvassing for Judge Judy hopefuls and not PYTs. If they are expected to be UN ambassadors then they could screen applicants. If they are to be role models to other gals in society, what better example than one who has the courage to admit it and move on?
Miss Ris Low said, "Who does not have a past? Who has not committed wrongs? Actually, being sentenced to probation does not make it a criminal record, but it is made serious because it is a legal one. This incident has made me appreciate the love and support from my family members."
I agree with vedder007. Everyone deserves a chance and this was exactly why the yellow ribbon campaign was started. Imagine what would happen if all those who had committed mistakes discover that they are condemned no matter how hard they try to pick themselves up again. Is it ever a wonder why they talk about having to face the 2nd prison after they are dealt with by the courts?
After this debacle, with all the generous criticisms, one wonders what dignity Miss Low is going to be finally left with. Thanks to all those who have intractably decided to punish her yet further at every given opportunity. Will it make anyone happier if she were to succumb to pressure and sink to new lows? I hope Miss Low has enough IQ to get the idea from this saga that this can be a rather unforgiving society. But that she will need a thicker skin or foundation to survive in this world. Thanks to all those who consider themselves to never be tempted and impossible to make mistakes with their moral high ground.
A famous book says, "Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone." Also, "Judge not the splinter in your brother's eye until you take out the plank in your own." A Japanese saying says, "Fall 7 times but get up 8 times." Confucious said, "What is more important is not about whether a man falls, but whether he arises again."
“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.”
Abraham Lincoln (American 16th US President from1861-65, who brought about the emancipation of slavery from 1809-1865).
“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

To be fair the both judges and Miss Ris should be blame. Organizer did mentioned and underline the terms and conditions to be disclosed as stated before taking part in the contest.
Miss Ris failed to disclosed the truth of her wrong doing before the contest, knowing the facts she should have done so (strong reason why her crown should be remove). Unfortunately, Miss Ris was picked the winner instead of the runner up. If she is being chosen as the runner's up then she wouldnt be highlightened or even not detect in her wrong doing. Just my 2 cents.
