  • What to buy with a budget of less than $5k

    Hi all,

I only have seiko watches since i am a boy.
I will like to buy my first swiss watch.
My budget is $5000 and below.
I will like to buy a watch that will appreciate overtime and when i fallen my son can still wear it. :-)
He is 2 by the way.

    Any recommendation?

    Thanks

If you asked this in a ROLEX forum, the responses shld not be too varied. I'd suggest a pre-own ROLEX watch; a model you'll like.

well i have the same dilemma here as well.

after buying a ladies DJ for my girl as her B-day prezzie, i have been thinking of getting a nice watch for myself ever since.

so i am toying with the idea of either a base Pam or a Sub LV. most of the ppl i talked to always advice me to get a rolex as a first luxury watch and then only later a Pam if you still feel like it.

my question here is .. and brothers here who own both brand, what's ur suggestion?

so which one do you wear more often?

which one is more practical? is strap much of a hindrance in our weather?

                Oh Thanks!
Rolex better in residue i guess.
I met a friend recently who paid $6900 for a new sea dweller..
                but it looks like submariner.

Anyone can introz a reliable and reasonably price place to buy pre-owned watch?

                Thanks

i bot my rollie first....becos i am sick of explaining to people what a panerai is...and why its so expensive...

i rotate my watches...no issue whatsoever...

Me rolex 1st , than after many many years my 1st pam , been loving it since, the beauty of pam is its straps , so many diff design and brands to chose from , change the straps and it look like a new watch on your wrists .
Rolex to pass on to our kids and pam for daily beater .

Look at PAM within your budget first. See if you can stretch. Below 5K a bit difficult. If dont like model within your budget then pretty much rolie.

Below 5K got more choices for rolex.

For PAM to wear daily, consider will you be used to straps under our hot weather if your job needs to be out of aircon frequent.

Ultimately wear the watches on hand n see which one feel better.

Warning: Wearing a more expensive n chio watch at shop may cause budget to tear. Had my close call last time when I put on 233...

                      Enjoy hunting!!

                        Your first swiss watch...

Hi...rolex and pams are nice but if you are like most newbies that we were, my guess is that you'll probably want to get a new watch first. If so, then the nice rolexs and Pams may be slightly a stretch for your money. There are many other respectable brands but one which I would recommend is the Omega Speedmaster (or Brietling). I was in the same situation more than 5 years ago and I finally picked the Speedmaster after much research. It has a classic design which has stayed pretty similiar in the last 50 years and the heritage is rich, being the first watch to be on the moon. You can google it to read more about it's rich heritage. While I love my PAM, i can also tell you that my speedmaster is also the watch i can depend on most in any situation. It's movement is much more refined than the historical range of PAM (IMHO) and the manual winding is a joy to play with. You can definitely pass this to your son one day (in fact, my friend is wearing his father's trusted Speedmaster which is more than 30 years old) although the resale price may not be as good as rolex but Omega does increase their prices yearly. And if you stay around this forum long enough, guaranteed that you'll be poisoned to get your rolex, PAM and others later! Good luck!
