UPDATE 11.46am: FOUR people have reportedly been killed after bombs exploded outside two hotels in Jakarta.

The bombs exploded outside the Marriott Hotel and the Ritz Carlton Hotel, blowing the facade off the Ritz Carlton, Associated Press reported.

An Associated Press reporter saw three injured taken away from the Ritz.

"Some windows of the Ritz-Carlton building have been shattered, mostly on the lower section. I'm looking at it from my office," said Myra Junor, who works at a nearby building, told Indonesia's Metro TV.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said they were with officials to see if any Australians were invovled.

The bombings almost six years after 12 people were killed and 150 were injured in a bombing at the Marriott Hotel by terrorist group Jemaah Islamiah.

i was in shock when i read this. i was planning to go to JKT the week and would have booked my usual stay at RC (same period as the bombing). I postponed it because of my wife's medical appointment
