SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Home Affairs Ministry (MHA) has placed two Singaporeans on Restriction Orders under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
The first one is Arifin Ali, alias John Wong Ah Hung, a detainee who was released on Monday.
The ministry said he was a member of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network, and was arrested in Bangkok eight years ago and deported back to Singapore.
He was arrested while hiding out in Thailand, after being involved with a group of like—minded individuals in plotting terrorist attacks against Thai targets.
The ministry added that since his detention in June 2003, Arifin had been cooperative, and progressed in his rehabilitation, and no longer requires further preventive detention.
A two—year Restriction Order was also issued to a Singaporean member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
53—year—old Jalaluddin Sanawi was released on May 6 on the order.
The ministry said he had trained at a MILF camp in the Philippines and helped in the group’s fund raising efforts.
He had been hiding overseas since December 2001, before surrendering to the Internal Security Department in April this year.
