  • UOB bank ridiculous service

My 2 cents of ranting about my experience with the bank. UOB.

In the past my own encounter with the bank's lack of integrity caused me pulling out all my money from the bank.
Called bank to stop GIRO payments as I have issue with a merchant. Bank said ok it's done.
Next thing the merchant deducted the amount from my account without my knowledge.
Called bank again. Bank says I got to call the merchant as the bank has no right to stop deduction.
If they didn't say it can be done I would have cancel the whole bank account.
Lesson learnt, if you sign GIRO arrangements you no longer have rights to your account.
Merchant can suka suka deduct money from your account. Got to go court to chase back.

Now my wife called UOB to enquire about some credit issues.
After a long long wait. Finally an operator, yes a real human operator, answered.
The operator said, "we are experiencing high call volume, we will call you back tomorrow "
WTF. Wait one hour plus for that?
You already answered the call and you only said that? Answering machine can do the job then.

So my wife is going to do the same thing as me.
Pull out all the funds and close all accounts.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
In this time and age, such bad service is unacceptable.
It's your $$$, so take your business to some other bank.

      Citibank.

      Bank with Citibank ..
Never had any major issues for the last 10 years...
i closed my UOB account down more than 5 years ago. Only thing i had with UOB now is their Union Pay Credit card; for my use in China.

This is strange because UOB service level is pretty good for me. Citibank on the other hand is bleh, maybe it's just luck on who you get.

Sorry to hear about the poor service.

As with any thing, knowledge is power. If you know your stuff, you won't get conned or cheated so easily.

Sometimes it helps if you have friends who are in the industry who can provide advise

            termination of giro services

found the links for giro termination forms for DBS/OCBC/UOB, links are below. not sure if it is the way to terminate.

reference to FAQ by DBS (click here for link) ,

How do I terminate a GIRO arrangement?

Should you decide to terminate the GIRO arrangement, you must notify the BO, as well as the Bank so that the Bank will not accept any more requests from the BO to debit your account for payment.

How would I know that my GIRO payments have been terminated?

Some BOs send a statement to confirm that the termination request is effected. You may also wish to contact the BO's customer service centre to confirm the status of the GIRO termination. Please note that as payment is upon request by the BO, the BO may effectively terminate the arrangement by discontinuing payment requests to the Bank.

with reference that payment is upon request by the BO, what if BO does not want to stop giro? what sort of re-course does an individual have?

DBS giro termination form can be found here

UOB giro termination form can be found here

OCBC giro termination form can be found here

I just did. The only thing about UOB is their ATM. Quite easily found and usually little to no queue.

Sorry to hear such bad experience you encounter but for me it's quite an enjoyable experience with them, maybe it's good to go down to have a face to face discussion with their manager.
                Cheers

Took a HDB loan and a car loan with em.

HDB Loan - the acct manager was mumbling incoherently when I request to change my mthly. I had to be rude and request to speak to someone I can understand.

Car Loan - An auntie kept yelling and yelling.

                  Enough of UOB.

I had wanted to open an account with UOB so I walked in with my T-shirt and shorts (not too sloppy) but the staff at the recep were chatting and refused to look at me when I stood right in front of them. So I left the bank and never looked back... 😁😁
