What questions will you ask the seller?

  • #2
no questions will be answered truthfully..

but more importantly, u need to ascertain some things

    1) is the price suitable for u to buy
    2) ask for proof of last known service

advice on buying second hand watches

                Hi Brothers

Long to no post already. Kindly advise.

Been eyeing a watch on the forum. Sorry cannot reveal which one later the seller knows. Need advice as first time buying form a private seller. Kiasi you can say.

                Here is my question
1)Other than look for the watch whether is authentic/scratches etc what other things to look for.

                2) When the seller say from AD should ask whether local or oversea or is it printed on the wrranty dcument?

                3) Lastly, when deal is successful, should I ask the seller to wirte a receipt for me as you never knew he/she may turn the table around and report to the local AD that his/her watch is stolen and provide the serial no of the watch.

                Paiseh ask so much

                  1) look and look again for anything that you will regret. once money change hands, seller is not required to give refund for change of mind.

                  2) does it matter? AD = AD. no AD is any better than another AD. But whatever tickles your fancy. none the less, the stamp will be on the paperwork.

                  3) ALWAYS get a receipt. prefer with a full set of details.

                    1. I will reccommend you to remove the bracelet and take a look at the serial number to match the warranty card. Prepare a tool if you want to do that.

                    2. You have all the right to ask where the watch is bought from, be it local or overseas. But I think that is not a big issue. If you dont want to ask, you can see the warranty card, you should be able to see the AD's name. Most fo the time, the AD's name does not reflect the country. You can either do a search on Google to see where the AD is from or check the first 3 digits of the serial number.

                    Refer to this chart
                    010 - Switzerland
                    265 - Sweden
                    720 - Mexico

                    208 - Greece
                    710 - USA

                    3. Most private seller or seller on the forum will not have a company registered. I don't think they will issue a receipt. If you want to, can do a bank transfer so that there is a record. I think the possibility of a seller that report lost of the watch is is very slim. If you are worried, meet at RSC to verify! I am not sure if it helps by using your IC to verify. For this, I think other gurus can advice.

when buying preown watch, i would suggest you deal @ RSC if it is a private dealer.

when RSC authenticate the watch, you can be rest assured that the watch is 100% geniune. if the preown set comes with warranty papers/card, you can verify it against the watch either via the rehaut or the serial number engrave underneath the bracelet @ the watch 6o'clock position. bring a minium X3 loupe to examine for scratches etc. look out for dings.

if local AD, it should reflect 430 as the country code. if not refer to the alamac list of country codes.
