Hi all
A while back, when I still lived in Singapore, I wrote to 5 Rolex dealers in London to check on their tax-free purchase systems. Most use a central system where buyers lose up to 8% for 'admin fees.'
One dealer emailed me back to say that all they take is a £10 Admin fee – about S$20 – and then the rest of the 20% GST/VAT is returned to the buyer. I was genuinely amazed.
Of the 5 dealers, one never replied and the other 3 had admin fees of up to 8% of the GST... Pretty bad really. My job has changed and now I'm back in the UK and I can't buy tax-free any more in the UK.
But if you all know anyone who is in London and looking to buy any of the watches that David M Robinson sell, then you'll get back 20% of your GST which is great. This applies to any watch you buy from them, not just Rolex.
Their showroom address is: 4 Jubilee Place, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5NY, UK and you could ask for Keith or one of his colleagues. Their company website is: www.davidmrobinson.co.uk if you want to check them out online. They do have branches in other cities: Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, Altrincham and Stockport but I don't know if the GST refund is the same across England.
I hope that is helpful to some of you passing through London or with friends returning from London.
Best wishes
Richard
Disclosure: I've never bought a watch from David M Robinson in Canary Wharf, London and I'm doing this because I'm helpful. It doesn't cost me anything to pass this on and it seems like good karma.
