  • Is it a buyer's Market?

I was on a lookout for a PAM 275 Dot dial (J series),was surfing thru the forum for possible leads. Now what I found was really surprising, the watch used to retail for 25,000$ when it was launched and people in the forum had actually managed to sell it for as high as 19,000-20,000 SGD!!
But seems that value of the Watch has come down , i could manage to buy it for 17,000 SGD!!, (I know a few of them are selling the latest one for around 16k , but i wanted to dot dial only and yes i did trade )i got a very good valuation for my Watch that i traded and was very happy with the price of the new watch
Now the same situation would not have been possible say 2-3 years ago when i started with Luxury watches. That time dealers were very firm on the price and there was hardly any room for negotiations. Is it coz of the supply glut...which is btw GOOD NEWS for all of us or generally value of watches have come down and they do not command the same premium as they used to ?

    what do u say?

a decade ago, there are probably a handful of well known gray dealers. fast forward current day. well known gray dealers are still around plus many new gray dealers. simple rule of economics - low supply, high demand equate to high price. an increase in supply with the same demand will equate to the price being lower.

im not familiar with panerai , but it seems that there are more different models compared to the past. this will mean more choices for buyers. this may result with seller more willing to negotiate for pricing because buyer can now choose from say 10 models instead of 3 models.

with more watch brands putting more effort in marketing, consumers will have more choices to decide on purchases as well.

however, is it still a buyer's market? it depends on which perspective one sees. one will also realize that list price of watches have slowly creep up over the years. is it benefiting buyers?
