I'd like to chip in with 1950's vintage AP or VC too. They look fabulous and can retain good value, if you can find a specimen in great condition.

Opinion for a leather dress watch

My 3 suggestions:
1. Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope, unique in it's own right, mesmerising domed crystal with classic looking chrono pushers and clean look. It does wear larger than the prescribed size as the dial extends all the way to the thin bezel, and is versatile as a dress/sports watch.
2. Zenith Elite Ultra Thin - I really do like the thinness of this watch but alas, my wrist size is too big for it to look good on. Likely suits 6.5 inch wrists and under.
3. Tissot Visodate - unpretentious and humble vintage themed dress watch that is priced very decently. It's a great everyday watch, again for wrist-sizes 6.5 inch and under as it wears smaller than it really is. In my opinion, this watch can stay as a guilt-free companion everyday beater to your $4k budget watch."Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana."

Recently looking for a <$300 automatic watch (semi-formal military style or similar), I looked at Orient Star, Seiko, Citizen and Timex.
In the end, I just placed an order for a Timex... my 2nd Timex this year

Did you check out Sea-Gull? They have a singapore website and a store front. Their military watch might suit you.

Here's the link to the Army Watch No.1 but the prices all seem to be removed.
