Buying Pre-own as gift

I have never received a pre-owned watch as a gift, but I have given a few to my gf before :-) Of course, always have it cleaned, and comes as a complete full-set.

This would be a very perfect scenario in daily life... unfortunately doesn't applies to every individuals. Especially chinese...

Even though our society is very western influenced, our ground of traditional believe is still very firm... when it comes to gifts that were pre-owned items to a person whom we have no idea whether the previous owner is dead or alive, is this gift legit or loot, and many many other doubts...

Gift from family (passed down is fine).
Probably if gift to guys they may accept but gift to girls (pre owned) is seldom acceptable in my opinion.

Well, Singaporeans normally shun away from pre-own watches as a gift for someone for obvious reasons ...

For me if close family members is fine esp if it's very expensive gifts such as watches or branded bags. For friends I don't think we normally lavish a lot on them, maybe a couple of hundreds but not thousands I guess haha

Just curious, what do you guys think of buying pre-owned watches as gifts? How would you feel as a receiver/giver?

Personally I will avoid doing that because I'm afraid it would come off as insincere. But I know there are some poeple who are ok with it. What are your comments on this?

I think it is very individual mind set & taste.

I sold two vintage hand-winging/self-winding watches to two gals and both are good friends.
Both bought for their boy friend ss gift and their boy friend is very pleased and happy not only the watch is nice and in tip top condition, but it a vintage watch that you don't find them everywhere.
