You can bring food items and she and her helpers will redistribute these stuff to needy old folks living in Chinatown area. No monetary donation required. This is the kind of charity that has no big show but truely help others.

Help our own people who need help is better than donating money to organisations whom you have no idea what they are using your money for. Worst is give to foreign lady who use it to built new house.

I think the issue here is that he is a religious leader which is widely perceived in the buddhist world to be free from material temptations and live ONLY by the deliverance of God, and that means by the charity of man kind.
I understand charity of man kind equates to a religious person getting enough to survive, I.e. Food, water, shelter and basic human ammenities. With these provided, they should then focus on their religious duties and relation with God. No pay or material gains should be in the equation.

Along this line, then he is really guilty, but there should be a committee within his organization that decides his 'salary' and it has to be reasonable as he is supposed to be a man on a mission for God. Not a high salary job to make it like he is paid to be monk.
Frankly, I am not bothered by this episode as I trust that we do charity by our own hearts, those who misuse this trust pay the price after death. If his consciencious is clear, then there is nothing he should fear for being a religiously strong person. But what is fair, what is reasonable, is subjective and at extreme ends. His doing can also be deemed as fair in this modern world by many but on the other end, deemed as unreasonable. Sigh....
I am merely giving my personal stance and no offence to anybody, anyone or any religion.

People gets angry because he draws $20k a month for doing "nothing" and buying branded goods. Btw, what is the level of acceptability? what is the benchmark man ?

            Anyway, latest from ST:

            Ming Yi breaks down

THE ex-chief of Ren Ci Hospital broke down several times as he took the stand on Tuesday after the judge found that he had a case to answer.

Ming Yi, 47, is facing four charges for making an unauthorised $50,000 loan from Ren Ci's coffers to his ex-personal aide Raymond Yeung on May 17, 2004. Yeung faces two charges.

The saffron-robed monk spoke at length in English about how he became a monk, how he became the abbot of the Foo Hai Ch'an monastery and how he set up Ren Ci.

He told the court the hospital was set up to fufill the last wishes of one of his teachers, the late Venerable Siong Khye.

He decided to take over a unit in the then-Woodbridge Hospital for the chronic sick.

But setting up the hospital was no easy task and there were many teething problems.

'I am a Buddhist monk. The worse it is, the more I have to go into it,' he told the court.

Read the full story in Wednesday's edition of The Straits Times.
I don't think I will help him to run here and there, fly here and there if I am getting paid 2-3 k / month doing such works. Good people has better things to do, and favourable opportunities out there.

              Something I don't understand here,

Ming Yi, 47, is facing four charges for making an unauthorised $50,000 loan from Ren Ci's coffers to his ex-personal aide Raymond Yeung.

If making a loan is wrong, can he use Ren Ci's coffers to invest into funds like lehman brothers?

I think the issue is unauthorise loan. If it's properly documented, then the loan would be deemed as legit. For a biz firm, If my fellow director wants to take a loan from the company, it has to be properly recorded. One of the offence he made was not making the loan official I suppose. And hence during the investigation, the probe into his spendings to see if there were abnormality and in the cause of it, publicize his spending. I dun think his own spending is in question in this case though.

Maybe it's poor knowledge of accounting practices etc that he is lacking it. They should have halved his pay and engage a FC to manage the accounts. Better than pay 4.7K for a Hongkonger with no work permit to be assistant. I'm sure amongst the devotees, there are many qualified accountant whom he could recruit.

Neglecting the importance of good financial governance led to the court case. And whenever they dig into the closet, much more is discovered and these often become juicer than the original case.
