don't understand the bit about 'peeling off rolex sticker and repaste to redate your purchase'.

if u dun trust the AD to sell u the real stuff, then i think better look for another hobby like stamp collection (kidding!)

The grey prices I see on the forum are only about 30% cheaper I think and comes withe risk of being a super good counterfeit and the risk of it spoiling. Actually are complete sets without dated warranty card considered grey as well? Can u claim warranty when I date it myself or after the seller dates it after the transaction?

Regarding the sticker part, I am referring that on the authenticity card, the side which states the AD and date of purchase. It's peel-able if I am not wrong.. So as long as they can get a 2nd hand watch in mint condition, they can repackage it and sell it as new.. Please correct me if I am wrong. I'm not saying they do not sell the real stuff.. Hahaha

Why do I think so? Because I noticed some AD has watches on display that have scratches on the links..

OK, I am interested in buying a milgauss gv from grey dealer if possible. Any reputable ones to recommend (best if allow verification before paying)? PM if not convenient.
              ...
BTW, is there a difference in resale value whether I got my watch from local AD or grey?
Grey dealer - Watch Arena/Montres at Balestier or China Square. I think his advert is on this forum. I do not think they allow verification before paying though. However, any problem, you can always go look for them to account.
Resale value - possible in the sense that some buyers, for reasons known only to themselves, think that local AD is better than grey dealers. It's their monies so it's their call though I have never really understood the logic...

I seriously don't think any AD will risk their dealership license to earn the few hundred extra bucks. Moreover, if the precious owner brought it to RSC for authentication, repair etc and RSC has a record of that, if the AD pulls a stunt like what u described, they will get into trouble cos the "updated" warranty card bears their shop name and stamp.

I think there're other better things to worry like what watch winder to buy, what leather strap to replace the steel bracelet with etc

erm...that sounds like a conspiracy theory...if you can't trust AD, who can you trust?

actually with grey dealer, I am not so concern whether it is brand new or if they re-package a super mint pre-owned as new.

I am more concern if the watch is genuine.

Some of the replicas these days are so real that it is impossible to tell the difference unless you open up the case. And these days, they even have replica boxes and warranty cards to make the whole package look like a real deal.

So my advice is this : If you do not want to buy from the local AD, then at least get it from someone reputable here. Hence, if you had a good deal, it is so important that you need to give that guy a good feedback so that it promotes his business and he can continue to serve the forumers with good genuine deals. Or alternatively, buy from a grey dealer who has a shop. Having a shop means he is a registered business and you can always go to his shop again if there are problems. Not the ideal option but still better than buying from a grey dealer whom you don't know and not sure how to find him again.

Just to share, only my 1st Rolex watch I got from AD and the rest of my Rolex watches I got from grey dealer .. All Rolex watches come with international warranty so no worries on the warranty part. As for the authentication part, just pay $107.00 for the peace of mind and do verification at RSC before any deal and I'm sure no grey dealers would mind that.

Yeah, that's one way to do it. However, heard RSC butcher watches that were sent in (check the other thread), so need to be mindful of that. Personally for myself, I hate the idea that RSC will open it up and all, afterall it is a new watch.

However, for other brands, not sure if there is authentication services. I heard for Panerai there is no more such service from Richmont

end of the day, there's no two ways about it.
                              1) if buyer is paranoid about getting fakes and want the highest assurance, pay more and physically buy from local AD, don't need to send for authentication.
                              2) if buyer wants it cheap, then bite the bullet & take the risk, buy from grey dealer, send for authentication (knowing there's a risk of watch getting mishandled at RSC).
if want the best of both worlds, then better to collect stamps.
