I believe that the General watch is real. Nobody in their right mind would want to fake a Richard Millie watch when the market is so darn niche and whoever who consider Richard Millie will have no problem buying a real one anyway.

Fakes are more for mass consumer luxury brands like Rolex, Omega, Tags, etc...

"...claimed that he only purchased knockoff watches to satisfy his curiosity about watch technology"

is there technology in fake watches? just curious...

its possible that indonesian got it as a gift - so he felt nothing about throwing it onto the ground. its quite unlikely its a knockoff as someone commented that RM is too niche.

Even U boat also have lotsa fakes..
                          I believe there's a seller here (kenneth_cml) selling a "BNIB-Uboat-Flightdeck-CF-dial-Ceramic-Bezel"

                          1) the "U Boat" wording in his picture is too far off from the number 9.
                          2) color scheme for the wordings are also opposite (grey is white & white is grey) as compared to original.

the moment he threw the watch at the ground, there are probably a few being ordered and delivered to him at the same time...
