Am in the market for a JLC which I liked because

        1. Lack of "celebrity"-advertising
        2. Reputation/history
        3. Aesthetics

But after a while I may get an Omega Seamaster as a daily beater because I realise

        1. Servicing for JLC is expensive
        2. Need to factor in servicing intervals and cost

        Any thoughts?

Because it may end up as an expensive hobby, then it will be too late to turn back.

As many have and will say - "expensive" is relative to one's affordability/comfort level. The cost, and in some cases the servicing internal, are related to the complications of the watch.

The repair and servicing cost normally also factor in the brand premium especially if you use the brands' service centre. For example, servicing of an ETA or ETA based movement of a high-end brand watch always costs higher than servicing a similar movement of a lower-end brand watch.

In conclusion, the maintenance cost of a watch are often relative to the cost of a watch and therefore should be considered as part of cost of watch ownership. In fact this same theory applies to many other consumer goods and almost all luxury items (for example cars) so one doesn't have to be a seasoned watch collector to know/understand this.

If a company makes a budget watch, I would not look for it when selecting its high-end range, like Seiko, I won't choose Grand Seiko no matter how good it is, the brand is just not worth that kind of money. At most, I'll go for a Sardine.

One that lacks "history" and "heritage".

For timepieces, I'd appreciate a brand that has lasted through the test of time and is known for it's quality.
