playing the devil's advocate - " a leopard never changes its spots"

there are always 2 sides to a coin. look @ what luis suarez did.

this forum has a big heart, if member wants to come back, maybe the member should apologize to this forum and all the member first?

I agree that there could be leopards who never change. In fact I mentioned in the other thread that there is one particularly stubborn one. There might be more, I don't know. But there could be trolls that grow and learn. So different strokes for different folks I guess. If an "ex-troll" rejoins the forum with another nick and behaves normally, is the forum going to go after him? I figured that the answer is no based on what I see so far, unless he starts the old habbit of trolling again. That being the case, any "re-entry" rule such as the one you mention would be redundant.

      Just my thought.

if initially start of as good but later turn otherwise. it will cause more problem.

the thoughts are rules have been amended because of these members. they are aware and yet they persisted. now these members want to be back, do you think the forum should accept them?

there are a few of them. there are many ways to spot them with relevant tools.

the idea of asking them to publicly apologize is just a small step in hope to ''rehabilitate'' but like you said, it can be redundant.

I was thinking about only 2nd chance not 3rd or 4th chance, so for those who persist I agree it's better to keep them out if possible at all.

I like "rehabilitate" but it's a big word. But then again, sometimes you don't know until you've tried it

Bro Pegasi, it gets worse when the troll mimics your user ID. Noticed there was a new member called Pegaki yesterday...

I agreed with pegasi on giving 2nd chance cause I would also like people to give me a 2nd chance. I also agreed with triton idea of asking them to apologize and to rehabilitate.
Let me try by putting up some brainstorm idea. Just an idea please don't troll me.

For giving 2nd chance does not equate to a free get out of jail card. He had to earn his way back by serving the forum (helping the mods in certain projects) and be on a probation period of 6 months.
                Areas to help;
                1) help organise gtg
                2) help organise D&D
                3) ...

For apologising, I don't think we should do it publicly as I don't think it is good to do the shame game. Instead he should apologise to the mods as he show disregards/disrespectful to the rules and the spirit of camaraderie that the mods is trying to achieve.

So i hope this "rehabilitate" will be a positive things for those who really want to come back.

IMHO, there's is not one effective way to deal with trolls, if there was one, trolls would be an extinct species by now...

As in life off the Internet, we just have to live with it...

Highlight any false informations made by this trolls, and move on once your point has been made... Cos most of the time, they'll try to finagle their way out... It is not in their nature to man up and admit to making a false impression...

yes, i cannot say it better.

as to help out in the forum, organizing GTG and D&D can be considered. what i feel that the member needs to do is to provide valuable contribution.

My original intention of this thread is to share and discuss how members should deal with trolls while they are active. But I realise that my comments below have unintentionally lead the discussion into how the forum should treat ex-trolls.

Anyway I am glad that the admin is open to discussing this matter. I believe all sensible members would respect whatever rules decided/set by the forum, and that everyone (except the trolls themselves) would be happy with a troll-free forum, if that's possible at all.

Sorry for the side track. I'm not a troll don't ban me.

Ok, I agreed with the rest in doing the ignore methods and after repeat warning (2 times) they should be ban. We should also help each other to look out for trolls and report such trolls to mods for further investigation.
