Thread title aside, I must be watching too much movies but let's see how many movie references I can cram into this cautionary tale.
It's not sex, lies and videotape though but it ain't no toy story also.
Received an indecent proposal for my Big Pilot from a chap in this broken city.
This chap is was a serious man who knew too much and likened himself to seasoned watchmen who also knew the importance of being earnest, stating he was a sincere goodfella in the neverending stories buyers love to tell.
However, like a clockwork orange, he noted that from the pics, he saw my watch was not cosmetically flawless and began an insidious conjuring of about 300 imperfections in my watch like it was fair game and knocked it down with a low G Force offer of 9k, proclaiming like one of 12 angry men that I had knocked up my asking price of 10.4k to the vertical limits for a watch that seems to have suffered 400 blows.
Politely declining his offer, I told him to get another IWC like the 3777 on bracelet but he would not accept the substitute and insisted it was the big pilot he wanted. I replied that with his fistful of dollars offer, the 3777 was as good as it gets but he could get my Big Pilot for more than a few dollars more.
Now something wicked this way comes and I realized this chap was not one of the usual suspects of low offerers.
In what would be a twister, he asked about the selling price of the Big Pilot and I replied the list price in excess of 22k. Then the entrapment ensued, claiming that he knows the selling price after discount is about 16k.(note: If he knew what the selling price was, why bother asking me?)
I gave him a reply that we're both no angels, my price of 10k odd is still reasonable for a sweet november 2010 timepiece whose warranty has expired in 2012, do have a think about it at my asking range and to let me know if he was still keen on purchasing.
But his next response shocked the living daylights out of me. Now, I have been called many things in my life but his next response made me feel like a naked gun, the final insult.
In the last message, he replied: "I m not keen. Your watch not original anyway. Good luck. Try selling it to newbie. Night"
Like the affliction that affected Bro Leofender83 less than thirteen days ago, I became the accused; of being a one of many matchstickmen; a conman where only newbies and the men who stare at goats would buy my 'fake' big pilot at a vertigo inducing price of 10.4k!
Dazed and confused, I got a little brassed off and thanked him for his wishes but told him to be careful of his allegations that my watch was not the right stuff without inspecting my watch.
I wished him good night and good luck in his hunt for a IWC Big Pilot at 9k and went to watch a movie in cinema paradiso!
I didn't mind his low offer, in fact, I'm guilty as sin, I must make some true confessions myself but we do so cordially; to those bros I have lowballed before, please accept my apologies as I head to the twilight of an incredible journey of watch collection.
This episode might be my retribution but also let this serve as a cautionary tale that a recently banned member who accused bro leofender83 of selling an overpriced and fake Panerai might still be lurking around using the same modus operandi to unnerve sellers, maybe he was too fast too furious, I 'chua' tio also!
Since there was no harm done, I wish to put this incident behind me and will not want to engage in further speculation of this chap's identity. Maybe his weaker command of the English language resulted in what's lost in translation with the use of 'not original' when he meant 'not brand new'.
Since there was no harm done, I will not reveal his number to curious bros or hot blooded mercury rising bros lest it results in a mouse-hunt, you will know it is him anyway when you've got mail from him.
If you have managed to read this far, my infantile rant and almost rhetorical question is stated in my thread title thread and there is no real need to respond, I am grateful enough if you're mildly entertained (hopefully not disturbed) by the movie references in the confessions of a dangerous mind.
In my closing act to reward your reading my verbose and superfluous post, I will offer my IWC Big Pilot for sale at 10k FIRM to any film-loving bro who can list at least FIFTY (50) movie titles/references I have made in my silly post : )
E.g.
1. Toy Story...
2. Never ending story
Disclaimer: The first to list the 50 movie titles/references will get a chance to purchase the IWC BP at 10k, there is no other incentive offered.
If some other chap makes me a higher offer for the BP and it gets sold, I will buy the first bro who lists the 50 movie titles/references right a nice cuppa coffee or to watch a movie, sorry about that...
Note to Mods: I also apologize if this thread is deemed crazy and inappropriate and you can close this thread as you deem fit.
Note to curious bros of my strange motive: It started with my indignation of being accused of selling an unoriginal watch and it evolved into this monstrosity of a post...
Hope this explains as much.
