  • Need some expertise on some controversial matters....

So I was pretty bored today, and went to surf some other watch forums...

... And so I happened to thought of something to write on my watch blog, but it is pretty controversial. I was planning to write something about XXXXXXX watch brand, being a fashion trend and so on (Some guys should know where I am going from here...) and I am afraid that it might create some sort of legal trouble for me if Sh** happens. So before I embark on this article, may I ask some experts here if I might get into trouble for writing about my opinion (which may not reflect a positive image of XXXXXXX....)

P.S. I know my blog's traffic is like crap la, and not much people will actually go and read it. But just want to be sure that I would not get into legal trouble for shooting my mouth away...

if it's a matter of personal opinion, i think it should be fine.

even in the worst case, i do not think you will get sued, most probably you will get asked to take down the offending post. unless your blog is a high traffic one, the damages that the other party can claim is probably not worth the effort & legal costs incurred.

you may consider to draft the article and send it to some people to read it through and seek their opinion. these people whom you choose should be people who you think can assist you and not say just post it.

as it has been mentioned, usually the brand will write to you and ask you to take it down before they take any action against you.

7-letters? If it's the brand I'm guessing, it's pretty popular.

if it's a review based on your personal opinion, I reckon it should be ok. However, if it's controversial in the sense that it crosses or even borders on the boundary of potentially defaming or attacking the brand or could result in some form of negative action from them, I'd suggest you not post it but word it in a manner that will not get you sucked into a quagmire.

I remember a docu-movie a coupla years ago where the producers impliedly tried to show the audience the "kelong" activities betwenn a very influential wine writer/ critic and his good friend, a very famous french wine maker. most of the intended audience got the message and i dont recall the producers got into any trouble.
I don't have enuf watches but I will stop buying now!

If you are writing about your opinions, I doubt there is any chance of you getting into trouble. If however, you are making some serious allegations with no proof whatsoever, I'd suggest you drop the idea lest you find yourself within their legal crosshairs.

Personally I love to read reviews that are holistic. The writer will state the positive and negative things that they felt. Beside that they will find something close to it to make some comparison. Different reader will associate differently with the +ve/-ve points base on their experience, preference and life style. So at the end you should leave the answers to your reader to answer themselves without you defending it.

Many people have already commented before that XXXXXXi is a fashion brand and so on, so maybe it is not worth mentioning anyway...

Personal opinion, in my opinion is all right.

Its a fashion brand, the design looks ugly, its over priced etc. Ok

Not like saying things without proof. Like they use china parts.

IMO all luxury watches are fashion brand now.

It should be ok to voice your opinions but if it reads like an attack on the brand, you could get into trouble.

Wah, seems like there is a very fine line between making an opinion and attacking the brand, and I might just digress and do the former. Maybe I should "guai guai" and stick to my reviews then, LOL
